Smuggler held, gold seized in Jessore

Border Guard Bangladesh men led by Major Mohammad Liakat Ali, deputy commander, 26 Border Guard Bangladesh seized some 105 grams of gold bars after arresting Sumon Das of Paunpur village under Anwara upazila in Chittagong on Tuesday. Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of the battalion told New Nation. The BGB official told New Nation that tipped off the BGB men arrested Sumon along Benapole frontier while he was going to India along with the gold bars 105 grams in weight worth Tk 3, 80,000. ‘The arrested was handed over to Benapole port station after filing a case’, Lt Col Jahangir added.
Schoolboy electrocuted in Sylhet

A schoolboy was electrocuted at Kadamtali in the city on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Rasel Ahmed, 10, son of Fazlu Miah, a resident of the area. He was a class IV student of Kadamtali Government Primary School. Witnesses said Rasel came in contact with a live electric wire while scaling the gate, decorated with electric lights for a marriage ceremony, of his house around 8pm. Later, he was rushed to a local hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
1 held with Indian liquor in Sunamganj
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in a drive arrested a person and recovered 310 bottles of Indian liquor from his possession at Boithakhali jetty in the town early Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Osman,60, son of late Anwar Ali, a resident of Haluargaon village. RAB sources said a team of RAB-9 camp, led by Major Abdullah Al Mamun, conducted a raid in the area around 5:30am and arrested Osman along with the liquor.
3 officials of Baberhat DC office held for forgery

Atleast three persons including the main record-keeper of the record room of the Collect orate office of Bagerhat were arrested and handed over to the police on the charge of changing the original records through forgery on Monday afternoon. In this connection Purabi Goldar, Executive Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner’s office Bagerhat lodged a case with Bagerhat Model PS. accusing the 3 persons. They arrested persons are Asim Kumar Basu (56), the main record-keeper of the record room of Deputy Commissioner, Bagerhat, Ilias Hossain (53), office assistant and Moniruzzaman (49), office assistant of the same office. Md. Tozammel Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model PS disclosed to the newsmen, Abu Sayeed Khalifa, son of one Hasan Uddin Khalifa of village Saralia under Mollahat Upazila in the district made a written complaint to the DC , Bagerhat on June 24 that his records were changed by the clacks in-charge of the record rooms through forgery.
Youth held with 76 fake currency notes in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police arrested a young man in possession of 76 fake Bangladeshis currency notes amounting to Tk38,000 from a shoe store on Goruhata Road in Patkelghata upazila on Wednesday evening. The arrestee was identified as Jahid Hasan, 24, son of Shahidul Sarder, a resident of Teilkupi village of the upazila. The owner of Shanker Shoe Store challenged Jahid when he gave him a forged note of Tk500 denomination after buying a pair of shoes around 7:30pm. Later 75 more forged notes of Tk500 denomination each were recovered after searching his body. Jahid was handed over to police, reports UNB..
15 injured in Manikganj road crash
MANIKGANJ: Fifteen people were injured in collision between a bus and a covered van near Folsatia bridge on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in sadar upazila on Thursday morning. Borongail highway police said the Paturia-bound ‘NB Paribahan’ bus collided with the Dhaka-bound covered van on the highway around 7:45, leaving 15 people injured. Three of the injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, seven to Shibaloya upazila health complex and two to Manikganj Sadar Hospital, reports UNB.
One arrested with yaba in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: One youth was arrested by the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 last night with 201 pieces of yaba tablets from Laksmipur area of this town.
According to RAB sources, acting on a tip off the members of the elite force rounded off one youth Ashikur Rahman, 27 son of one Abdus Sattar of Kuthibari area of this town and recovered the yaba tablets from his possession.
After interrogation arrested Ashikur confessed to RAB that he is a professional drug trader and was waiting for the customer. He was handed over to Kotwali police for legal proceedings.
2 held with firearms, bullets in Pabna
PABNA: Police arrested two young men along with a firearm and bullets at Teghoria village in Bera upazila of the district on Tuesday night. The arrestees were identified as Rezoan Hossian, 35, son of Abu Bakar Sheikh, hailing from Haturia Purba Para and Robiul Islam, 30, son of late Akkas Ali, a resident of Natun Penchakola village, reports UNB.
