3 youths held with foreign cigarettes, liquor in Sylhet

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three young men in possession of huge foreign cigarettes and liquor from Dhopadighirpar area in the city on Friday night. The arrestees were identified as Pervej Bhuiyan,36, son of Rahman Bhuiyan, and Sadek Miah,30, son of Mostafa Miah, both residents of Baroshala village, and Ismael Miah,22, son of Mirash Miah, a resident of Monglirpar village in Sadar upazila. Rab-9 sources said tipped off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested the trio at night. The law enforcers also recovered huge foreign cigarettes and liquor from the spot. A case was filed in this connection.
Sylhet customs observes Nat’l VAT Day
Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT commissionerate on Friday brought out a colourful rally in the city to mark the National Value Added Tax (VAT) Day and VAT Week- 2015. Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate brought out the rally from city’s Upshohor area around 9 am with the theme of this year’s National VAT Day and VAT Week is “Pay the VAT timely to participate in the development of the country”. To mark the day, the rally was brought out from Upshohor area and ended at the same venue after parading different city streets. Mahmudusus Samad Chawdhury MP inaugurated the rally. In this connection a discussion meeting was held at a Hotel this evening with Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Dr. A. K .M. Nurujjaman in the Chair.
Speaking at the function the . Mahmudusus Samad Chawdhury MP urged the people to extend their cooperation in making VAT system effective to generate revenue for the development of the country. He also advised Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate officials to work with sincerity and for the wellbeing of the people and the country.
Fish fry released in Chapainawabganj

24,000 fish fries were released in the river Mohananda at Baroghoria near Birshreshtha Shahid Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir Bridge in Sadar upazila on Thursday noon. Bangladesh Police Service Association and Chapainawabganj District Community Policing Cell jointly released the fish fries. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of Rajshahi Range Md. Iqbal Bahar attended the function as chief guest. After the release of the fish fries, a discussion meeting was held on the river bank. It was held with the superintendent of police (SP) of Chapainawabganj Bashir Ahmed- in the chair. Among others, deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir, convener of Chapainawabganj District Community Policing Cell and former chairman of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila Md. Ruhul Amin, mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality Maolana Abdul Matin and district fishery officer Md. Ekramul Islam spoke on the occasion.
Youth electrocuted in Jhenidah
JHENAIDAH: A young man died from electrocution at Bankira village in Sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Amrita Kumar Sen,40, son of Santosh Kumar Sen, a resident of the village. Family sources said Amrita came in contact with a live electric wire while he was working at his kitchen in the afternoon. Later, he died on way to a local hospital, reports UNB.
