Terrorist held with firearms in Sylhet

Police in a drive arrested an alleged terrorist along with a pipe-gun and two rounds of bullet from Doudik village of Jaintapur upazila on Wednesday night. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Ali, 40, son of Abdur Rahman, a resident of the village.Being tipped off, police conducted a drive at the village around 8pm and arrested Ali from his house, said Golak Chandra Bosak, officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station.A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
Minor boy electrocuted
A minor boy died from electrocution in Baluchar area of the city on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Sumon,3 son of Amir Ali, a resident of Bashir Miah Colony of the area. Family sources said Sumon was electrocuted as he touched a multi-plug unknowingly while playing in the room around 7:30pm. He died on the spot.
40 houses damaged as tornado hits Bagerhat

At least 10 people were injured and 40 houses damaged as tornado lashed Dhakra and Kumarkhali villages of Perukhali union in Rampal upazila on Thursday morning. The storm hit the two villages around at 9:30 am and lasted for one and a half minutes. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Babu, chairman of Perikhali union parishad, said ten people were injured as houses and trees collapsed on them when tornado hit the villages.
Mohammad Jahangir Alam, deputy commissioner of Bagerhat district, said Rampal upazila planning officer was sent to the villages to make a list of the people affected by the storm.
Schoolteacher electrocuted in Sherpur

A schoolteacher died from electrocution at Shapmari area of Vatshala union parishad in Sadar upazila on Thursday noon. The deceased was identified as Shaiful Islam, 28, an assistant teacher of Shapmari High School and son of Suruj Ali of the area. Locals said Shaiful was severely injured as he came in contract with a snapped electric wire at his fish farm in the village around 6:00pm. Later he has rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Housewife commits suicide in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH: A housewife was committed suicide herself by hanging at Torongi para village under Boda upazila here on Thursday.The deceased was identified as Momota Begum, 35, wife of Safiqul Islam of the village.Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said police.Family feud as the reason behind the suicide, police sources said.A case was filed in this connection with respective police station, reports BSS.
One electrocuted in Manikganj

A gold-worker was electrocuted at his own workshop at Ghior bazzar here on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Prodip Karmaker, 26, son of Profulla Karmaker of village Bishnupur. Local sources said Prodip died on the spot as he came in contact with a live electric wire at about 2pm.
9 sued for killing housewife after rape
LAXMIPUR : A case has been filed against nine people in connection with the killing of a housewife after gang-rape in Chandraganj upazila. Tahura Begum, mother of the victim, filed the case on Thursday with Chandraganj Police Station, three days after the incident. Gias Uddin, a neighbour of the victim, was among the accused. Quoting local people, police said 8/9 miscreants, including Gias Uddin and Nasir, picked up the wife of Abdul Mannan and mother of five children, from her house at Gandhyabpur village in Chandraganj upazila forcefully in absence of her husband, who stays in Dhaka for job in a private organisation, on Tuesday night. Later they violated the housewife and dumped the body in a pond near the house after strangulating her to death.Local people pulled up the floating body of the victim from the pond on Wednesday afternoon. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy, reports UNB.
