BGB detains 3 trucks of fruits in C’nawabganj

BGB members detained three trucks of Indian grapes and oranges from Sonamasjid area under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district allegedly for deceiving taxes on Wednesday night. Major Sheikh Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, second in command of 9 battalion of BGB said, acting on secret information, a task force including BGB detained the aforesaid three trucks at around 9 pm. There was 29 metric tons of grapes and oranges in the three trucks worth Tk. 1,80,00,000. He added that the trucks were carrying excess of which was declared in the bill of entry at the port. The seized fruits were deposited with the Chapainawabganj customs with a case.
Cyclist killed in road mishap

One cyclist was killed on the spent when he was ran over by passenger bus bound for Bagerhat on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway in front of the office of Police Super, Bagerhat on Thursday at noon. The deceased was identified as one Mostafizur Rahman (60) hailed from Dashani under Bagehrat Pirashava. Police said, on the day at 1 pm the ill-fated cyclist was going from Bagerhat district town to his village residence and when he reached the place of occurrence the killer passenger bus that was coming from Khulna to Bagerhat collided head on with the cycle and fled away. As a result, the cyclist was fatally injured and died instantly. Being informed of the matter police rushed to the spot, recovered the dead body and sent it to Bagerhat morgue for its autopsy
Bicyclist killed in road crash in Jhenidah

A bicyclist was killed in a road crashed near Bachpara village on Jhenidah-Jessore road under Kaligonj upazila in Jhenidah on Friday noon. The deceased was identified as Krishno Kumar Das, 45 of Daspara under the upazila. Officer in charge (OC) Monir Uddin Mollah of Kaligonj police station said, on Friday noon at around 02:30 pm a bicyclist collided head on with a Jhenidah bound speedy truck near Bachpara village on Jhenidah-Jessore road under Kaligonj upazila leaving bicyclist Krisno died on the spot. On information police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for on autopsy.
SUST expels 14 Shibir members

The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have expelled 14 leaders and activists of Shibir, including the university unit president, for their involvement in the December 13 attacks. The decision arose from a syndicate meeting held around 3pm on Thursday, a month after the fourteen were temporary expelled on the basis of a recommendation of the disciplinary committee. After the syndicate meeting, university registrar Ishfakul Hossian told journalists that among the expelled students those who have already completed their final examination would be issued with certificates.
