Woman held with arms in Joypurhat border
JOYPURHAT: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested a woman along with a pistol and one round of bullet from Pagla Dewan border area of Sadar upazila on Monday morning. The arrestee was identified as Suraiya Khatun, 25, wife of Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Rupayunpur village in the area. Lt Col Abdur Razzak Torofdar, commanding officer of BGB battalion-3 said on secret information, a patrol team of BGB conducted the drive in the area and arrested the woman around 6am along with a pistol and one round of bullet, reports UNB.
Heroin, Yaba recovered in Bogra

Police in Bogra seized heroin, yaba from two drug peddlers at Haddipotti area in Bogra town recently. The two arrested were Rezaul Karim allies Dipzol, 32, of Mailgram of Bogra town and Shahida Begum, 42, of Polashbari upazila in Gaibandha district. Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the location and arrested the drug peddlers followed by the recovery of 500 gm heroin and 115 pieces of Yaba tablet. Contacted, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP-B Circle) of Bogra Gaziur Rahman said that a case was lodged on narcotic act with sadar police station on Saturday.
3,000m current net seized in M’bazar

Local administration, with the help of Fisheries Department, seized around 3,000 metres of current net from different places of the Hakaluki Haor (water body) in Borolekha Upazila of the district recently. A section of local fishermen and people had been catching fish using current net for long, it was alleged. As a result, the local varieties of fish have been reduced to a great extent from the vast haor. Local administration and Fisheries Department sources said the Hakaluki Haor covers different areas under Juri, Kulaura and Borolekha upazilas of Moulvibazar District and Fenchuganj and Golapganj upazilas of Sylhet District.

The 4th founding anniversary of TV channel-71 was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a simple but in a befitting manner on Sunday. On the occasion a discussion meeting was held Bagerhat Press Club auditorium with Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain. Bagerhat district correspondent of The New Nation and former president of Bagerhat Press Club in the chair. Bisnu Prosad Chakravarty, local correspondent of the TV channel explained the aims and object of his channel in his address of welcome. The discussion meeting was also addressed among others by Adv Md Mozaffor Hossain. Bagehat correspondent of The Daily Independent, Nihar Ranjan Shaha, Secretary General of Bagerhat Press Club and local correspondent of The Daily Ittefaq, Babul Sardar, Bagerhat correspondent of Janokantho and former president of the club, Md. Kamruzzaman, director of NGO Ash Bangladesh and former Secretary General of Bagerhat Press Club,Abu Sayeed, Bagerhat, editor of The Weekly KhanJahan (published from Bagerhat) and others. After the discussion meeting was over a cake was ceremonially cut by the chief guest to mark the founding anniversary of the channel.
1.2 kg heroin seized in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered about 1.2 kg heroin from Paschim Diarmanikchar border area in Godagari upazila on Sunday afternoon. Lt Col Shahjahan Siraj, commanding officer of BGB battalion -37, said, on secret information a BGB team led by Nayek Sukur conducted the drive in the area around 5:30pm and recovered the heroin worth TK 24 lakh. However, the drug peddlers managed to flee from the scene, reports UNB.
Milk factory fined Tk 5 lakh in Pabna
PABNA: A mobile court fined a factory Tk 5 lakh for producing adulterated cow milk at Paschim Sonatola village of Santhiya upazila on Sunday afternoon. The mobile court, led by upazila nirbahi officer Shafiqul Islam, conducted a drive at the village and unearthed the factory which used soda, sugar and glucose for producing adulterated cow milk.Later, the mobile court fined factory owners Manik Gosh and Sumon Gosh Tk 5 lakh and sealed off the factory, reports UNB.
