BGB detains 13 at Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Wednesday night arrested 13 Bangladeshis including three women as they tried to go to India illegally, said the police. Ashraf Hossain, assistant sub inspector, Benapole port police station told that BGB personnel nabbed the thirteen while they were trying cross Benapole frontier illegally at around 8pm on Wednesday. The arrested were handed over to Benapole port police station after filing a case, police said.
Exhibition of women entrepreneurs starts in Barisal

The week-long exhibition of products produced by grass root level women entrepreneurs started in Barisal on Saturday. Trinamul Nari Uddyakta Society (TNUS / Grassroots) organized the exhibition in assistances with Self Employed Workers Association (SEWA) with the theme of Unity and Struggle: Save Industry, Save Culture.
Advocate Sheikh Md. Tipu Sultan, Workers Party lawmaker inaugurated the exhibition at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city. Maksuda Khanam, central assistant secretary of TNUS, presided over the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition and among others Saidur Rahman Rintu, AL backed Sadar upazila chairman and president of Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, attended the programme as chief guest. The lawmaker called to remove the obstruction of society and also arranging such kind of fairs to create market for the women. He hoped that district level wholesale and retail market would also be created through this kind of fair and it also will expand opportunity of working for the home based women entrepreneurs. The exhibition with 12 stalls would be opened for visitors and buyers from 10:00 AM 10: 00 PM till July 2, 2015, organizers said.
Eid shopping picks up at Alhamra Shopping City

Alhamra Shopping City witnessed a huge rush of Eid shoppers on Friday, the first weekend of Ramadan, for their best buys there. Shop owners at the super shopping centre said they have received satisfactory response from customers at the end of the first quarter of the fasting month. Although sales usually gear up after 10 days of the Ramadan, many said, shopaholics managed to do their Eid shopping on the weekend. Like the past years, salwar-kamiz and panjabi are on top of the Eid shoppers’ choices. Some traders said they have witnessed a huge crowd on the first holiday of the Ramadan, but most of them came to monitor market price. Alhamra shopping City is always a happy experience as the first destination for fashion-conscious shoppers. Buyers roam one store to another store to get their expected Eid wears. Hasan, who came to the mall for shopping, said, “It’s wise to buy Eid wears in the first half of the Ramadan as the market gets too crowded after that.” He waxed lyrical about the pleasant shopping experience at Alhamra Shopping City.
Valuables looted in Sylhet
Robbers looted gold ornaments, cash money and other valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh from a house in Lamakagi area under Sylhet Sadar upazila early Wednesday. Family members and locals said a gang armed robbers numbering 10 to 12 stormed the house of one Abdul Gani around 3:00am breaking open the door and held the family members hostage at gunpoint. They also looted gold ornament weighing 5 grams, cash money, mobile phone sets and other valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh in total from the house. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jalalabad Police Station Akter Hossain confirmed the matter and said that they were trying to arrest the robbers.
