Traditional bull fight held at Sultan Mela in Narail

A traditional bull fight was held at Narail Govt. Victoria College field on Thursday at the third day of Sultan Mela marking the renowned painter’s 89th birth anniversary. At least 20 thousands of spectators enjoyed the fight. 50 fighting bulls from different district took part of the fight sponsored by electronic company Walton . It may be mentioned that every year Sultan Foundation arrange traditional rural sports as a part of Sultan Mela marking Sultan’s birth anniversary. This year an eight day long fair began on Tuesday February 25 and will end on March 4.
Body of missing child recovered

The dead body of Sajjad Hossain, a 5- year old male child who was missing from his village Mulghar under Fakirhat Upazila in the district 2 days ago was recovered by the police form a fish farm of the same area on Monday at dead of night, according to a delayed report received here. The boy was the son of one Masud Shaikh, a poor Nasiman driver of the village. In this connection Liku Begum (50), wife of one Babar Ali of the area was arrested by the police with the help of the locals suspecting her involvement in the affair. A case was registered with the local PS in connection with incident. Family source of the victim said, on Saturday Sajjad Hossain was missing from his village. Search was made hither and thither by his relatives. But no trace of him was found. Zzon Monday at night some villagers found the dead body floating in a fish farm of the locality and informed the police of matter. Police rushed to the spot, recovered the dead body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for its autopsy.
Ear of elder brother cut off by younger brother

Believe it or not the younger brother cut one of the ears of an elder brother off. This incident took place in the village Ghanashyampurm within Shuvodia Union under Fakirhat Upazila in the district on Monday, according to a delayed report received here. It is learnt from the locals that an enmity had been prevailing between elder brother Babla Debnath (42) . son of one Ajit Debnath of the village and his younger brother Subrata Debnath over the possession of disputed land properties. Following this an altercation took place between the two brothers on the day in the morning and when it reached its climax the younger brother blew on the head of the elder brother with a spade. But it slipped and fell on one of his ears. As a result, it was cut off and he was seriosly injured. He was immediately admitted to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex for his treatment But it could nt be known whether any case was lodged with the local PS or not in connection with the incident.
Community Mela held in Kurigram

A day- long Community Mela-2014 was held at Char Phulbari Govt Primary school ground under Roumari upazila of Kurigram district on Sunday.The Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mohammad Shajahan Kabir inaugurated the mela. Char Livelihood rogramme (CLP) of the government and an NGO RDRS Bangladesh jointly organised the mela.The CLP demonstrated their activities in the mela through eight stalls of their various components. The components were social development, bazaar and livelihood, rural deposit and loan system, nutrition project, health and family planning and construction development. Besides, arsenic test of water, blood grouping and haemoglobin test of the people were completed with free of cost there while hundreds of char people including CLP beneficiaries observed the mela. Besides, contests on various events were held among char teenagers and CLP beneficiaries.A discussion and closing function, presided by President of the village development committee Md. Asaduzzaman, was held there at the evening. Guests among others, the UHFO Dr. Shajahan Kabir, District Construction Development Officer of the CLP Md. Tayeb Hossen, local Programme Manager of the RDRS Bangladesh Khandaker Farjan Ahmed and Chairman of Roumari sadar union federation Rokeya Begum were present there. After discussion, artists of Rupantar Shilpee Gostee in Khulna presented song and Bengali drama Dayee Kay.
