287 bottles of Indian wine seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized a total of 287 bottles of Indian wine from Companiganj bordering area in Sylhet district on Friday. Sources concerned said, acting on a tip-off, a BGB team conducted a drive at Chandan Nagar area in Companiganj upazila around 10:00am and seized 287 bottles of Indian Official’s choice wine and eight bottles of Beer from abandoned condition, worth about Tk 4.3 lakh.
Woman robbed of Tk4 lakh in Sylhet
Muggers looted Tk 4 lakh from a woman at Shibbari in Dakkhin Surma upazila on Thursday. Sources said Rozina Begum, wife of Abul Kashem of Kandebpur village in Moglabazar area, withdrew Tk4 lakh from Dakkhin Surma branch of Islami Bank around 2.00pm. A group of muggers, numbering 4 to 5, riding two motorcycles intercepted the CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying Rozina and snatched away a bag containing Tk4 lakh from her possession. Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Moglabazar Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the muggers.
RAB held drug peddler in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR : Members of Rapid Action Battalion-14 (RAB) in a raid arrested a drug peddler along with contraband drugs at Bakshiganj upazila of the district Saturday evening. The alleged drug peddler was identified as Md. Sujat, 22, son of Md. Joyenuddin, hails from Rampur village of the upazila. Jamalpur RAB-14 sources said receiving secret information, a team of RAB led by commander Mohammad Tazul Islam raided the house of Sujat and caught him red-handed. The RAB members recovered phensidyl, Yaba tablets and cash of Taka 48,400 from his possession. A case was filed with Bakshiganj police station in this connection, reports BSS.
Jamaat leader held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA : Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Debnagar village in Sadar upazila on Monday morning. The arrested was identified as Maulana Zafarullah, president of Debnagar ward unit of Jamaat. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Emdad Sheikh said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid at the house of Zafarullah in the area and arrested him at about 9:00 am. The Jamaat leader was charged with trying to kill local journalist Yearob, the OC added, reports UNB.
Garment worker killed in Manikganj road accident

A garment worker was crushed under a human hauler on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Muljan area of Sadar upazila on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Morzina Begum, wife of Motiur Rahman, a resident of the area and a garment worker of AKH Garments in Dhamrai upazila. Police said the Aricha-bound human hauler hit Morzina in the area around 9am when she was going to her workplace, leaving her dead on the spot. On information police recovered the body and sent it to Manikganj Sadar Hopsital for autopsy. Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident. A case was filed in this connection.
2 arrested for strangling housewife to death

Police arrested husband and mother-in-law for strangling housewife to death demanding dowry at remote Talukdar Char under Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal on Sunday noon. Ujjal Kumar Dey, Mehendiganj police station officer- in- charge, said housewife Shathi Akter, 20, was strangled to death for dowry on early Sunday. Police after informed by the neighbours reached at the remote area on Sunday noon and recovering the dead body arrested Sumon Munshi, husband, and Farida Begum, mother-in-law of the victim. They arrestees claimed that the victim committed suicide over family feuds, but signs of strangling found on throat of the victim. Preparation for lodging case was going on till this report, the OC Mehendiganj PS told.
The dead body sent to Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy on Sunday afternoon, he added.
