BCL activists threaten RU journo

A general diary has been filed against Bangladesh Chhatra League men of Rajshahi University unit who threatened Jugantor journalist on Sunday night. The victim Hasan Adib, RU Correspondent of the Jugantor filed general diary with Motihar thana police station on at 12 pm on Tuesday . BCL activists verbally assaulted Adib because a report on torturing a private university student confining in a room of Madar Bux hall demanding extortion. In the mean time, BCL activists hurled abusive language to all the journalists of the university and threatened saying “we will see you”. At one stage, they attempted to assault the journalist physically. Contacted, Ashok Chouhan, Inspector of Motihar police station said, we have got a written complaint on Tuesday.

Chopped body of farmer recovered in Banaripara

Chopped dead body of a farmer was recovered from a canal-side Chakhar union of Banaripara upazila under Barisal district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain, 28, son of Abdul Ali Khan from Madarkathi village of the union. Ziaul Ahsan, Banaripara police station officer in charge, said after informed by local people police rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body after 9:00 AM. There were several chopping signs on the dead body and police sent it to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC of Banaripara PS told. Preparation of lodging murder case was going on till this report, police sources said.

2 lakh Indian bidis seized in Sylhet

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized two lakh pieces of Indian bidi worth Tk2.5 lakh in Kanaighat upazila on Tuesday night. BGB sources said on secrete information that a large consignment of Indian bidis would be taken to Bangladesh illegally, a team of BGB 41 battalion launched a drive in Dona border area. Sensing the presence of the BGB petrol team, the smugglers fled the scene leaving the bidis in a field. Later, BGB members seized the bidis.

SUST Anthropology students lock dept

The students of Anthropology department under the academic year of 2009-10 of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Tuesday kept their department under lock and key demanding immediate publication of honours final examination results. The students locked their chairman’s office and classrooms around 8:00am and started sit-in programme in front of the department. The angry students said that they took part in the final examinations in June, 2014 but the university authority was yet to publish their result. Meanwhile, the students withdrew their programme in the afternoon getting assurance from the department Chairman. When asked, department head Associate Prof AKM Mazharul Islam said that they would publish the results very soon.

Prize distribution ceremony held in Bogra
