Road crash kills son, injures mother in Jessore
JESSORE: A son was killed and his mother injured critically in a road accident at Hudorajapur on the Jessore-Magura highway under Sadar Upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Piyas, 11, son of Khairul Islam of Garibpur village under Chougachha Upazila of the district. Police said the accident occurred when a brick-laden truck hit a bus of Shohagh Paribahan’ in the area, leaving bus passenger Piyas and his mother Babita injured. The injured were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital where Piyas succumbed to his injuries. Later, mother Babita was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, reports BSS.
Cash, tin distributed among poor in Natore
NATORE : Sadar Upazila Parishad distributed cash Taka and corrugated tin among 76 distress families of the upazila here on Friday evening. Sadar Upazila Administration organised the programme on its premises. M Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP, distributed the money and tin among the families as the chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Nairuzzaman in the chair. The 76 families got Taka 3,000 and one bundle tin each. Before, the chief guest also distributed Taka four lakh among 250 students as stipend, reports BSS.
Mobile court punishes 3 drug addicts in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A mobile court here on Friday sentenced three drug addicts to two years’ jail each. The convicts are Khorshed Alam Bhutta, 40, Akhteruzzaman Joni, 24, and Sharif, 20, of Hajiganj upazila. Police in separate drives arrested the three from different areas of Hajiganj and recovered banned drug Yaba tablets from their possessions. Later, they were handed over to the mobile court. The mobile court lead by Executive Magistrate Rajibul Islam held trails and awarded the verdict, reports BSS.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two people along with 180 bottles of liquor at Mirapara in the city early Friday. The arrestees were identified as Lutfur, 28, son of late Thosir Uddin in Zakigonj upazila, and Suhel, 25, son of Shomser Ali in Chaathak upazila. Tipped off, a team of RAB-9 conducted a raid in Mirapara area around 1:30 pm and arrested them along with the liquor, said RAB-9 in a press release on Friday afternoon.

The arrestees were identified as Lutfur Rahman, 28, son of late Tosir Uddin of Jakiganj upazila under Sylhet district and Sohel Mia, 25, son of Samser Ali of Chhatak Thana under Sunamganj district. The arrestees were identified as Rajit Billah Raju,32, son of Manirul Islam, and Abdul Kaiyum,30, son of Yusuf Mandol, residents of Kalupur of the same upazila. Rab-5 commanding officer Major Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a human hauler at night.
