BGB seizes drugs worth Tk 1 cr

Border Guard Bangladesh men under Khulna sector seized illegal drugs worth Tk 1,08,06,025 in the month of May, 2015 according to a press release of the BGB. The press release said Border Guard Bangladesh men of 26 Border Guard Battalion seized drugs worth Tk 47,79,825 while drugs worth Tk 33,16, 600 were seized by the 23 Border Guard Battalion. 38 Border Guard Battalion seized drugs worth Tk 26, 78,000 in the meanwhile. The BGB filed a total of 170 cases in these connections. The BGB men picked up a total of 187 Bangladeshis including children and women while they were going to be trafficked to India in May. In a separate drive, 26 Border Guard Battalion seized Indian goods worth Tk 5,07,50,600 raiding an area at Jhumjhumpur under Jessore Kotwali police station on June 7, said Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion.
Risky billboard eviction drive begins in Sylhet city

Authority of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has begun its drive to evict risky billboards from the city corporation areas on Monday morning. On the very first day of the drive, the SCC authority evicted risky billboards installed on both sides of the main road at Kadamtoly area in the capital. The city corporation sources said that the drive was conducted to remove the billboards for the safety of the city-dwellers and commuters. Owners of the billboards alleged that the SCC evicted their billboards without giving sufficient time to remove those. Earlier, the SCC authority issued a notice to remove all risky billboards from the city streets within June 7. As soon as the deadline expired, the SCC started the eviction drive on June 8.
Sylhet Juba Dal leader lands in jail
A Sylhet Court here on Tuesday sent a Sylhet unit Juba Dal leader to jail in connection with three cases filed over subversive activities during countrywide hartal and blockade.
The convicted was identified as Kamrul Hasan Shahin. Magistrate Akber Hossain Mirdha passed the order in the afternoon while the police produced him before his court.
Sources concerned said that Airport Thana police arrested Shahin from his residence at supply area in city on Monday night.
International cricket match venue at Barisal Stadium demanded

Citizens of Barisal on Monday noon formed a human chain demanding international cricket match venue at Barisal Stadium. The human chain held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city center at 1:00 PM Tuesday. It was organised by Boys of Barisal (BOB), an association of cricket lovers, and attended by representatives from different classes of the citizens. Sajjad Hossain, president BOB, presided over the programme addressed among others by Saidur Rahman Sohel, secretary BOB, Nazrul Biswas, president Barisal Reporters Unity, Swapan Khandokar, senior journalist, Mizanur Rahman, secretary Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samaooy Parishad, Bahauddin Golap, secretary Bangabandhu Shikkha O Gobeshana Parishad, Zakir Hossain, BCC ward councilor . The speakers said Barisal city has a full pledged stadium named as Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabad Barisal Divisional Stadium on bank of Kirtan Khola River. Most of the times in the year this stadium remained unused as sports associations of the regional fails to arrange competitions here since long days. Now Barisal has connected by air, road and waterways and also has standard accommodation and internet facilities, they said. In this situation citizens of Barisal still deprived from viewing international sports, especially cricket, without any strong reason, except failure to draw attentions of international sports organisers, the participants told. After holding human chain participants rushed to the office of the deputy commissioner and handed a memorandum for the prime minister and sports minister through administration to press home their demand.
