Roof collapse kills construction worker in Gazipur

A construction worker was killed when the roof of a security check-post room collapsed on him in Chabagan area of the city on Tuesday morning. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Witnesses said the roof of Gazipur Deputy Commissioner residence’s security check-post room fell on the worker while he, along with one of his co-workers, was repairing the room at about 8:30am, leaving him critically injured. Later, the injured worker was rushed to Shahid Taj Uddin Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Sources of the hospital confirmed the death.
Historic six-point day observed in Sylhet

The historic six-point day was observed in Sylhet on Sunday with a renewed call for completing the trial of the rest of the war criminals and Bangabandhu’s unfinished tasks to materialize his dreams. Awami League (AL), its associate organizations, different socio- cultural and professional bodies observed the day through daylong programmes. To mark the day, Sylhet SL arranged a discussion meeting at Zilla Parished on Monday afternoon. Sylhet District SL president Ajajul Haque presided over the meeting while Central AL Organizing secretary Advocate Misbah uddin Siraz, Sylhet District AL secretary Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury, among others, addressed it.
Two killed in accident in C’nawabganj

Two persons were killed as a truck and a human hauler collided head on at Koilabari under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj distinct yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as driver of the human hauler Mozammel Hoque, 40, son of Safar Ali of Mirjapur Bangalpara and Babul Hossain, 45, son of Taslim Uddin of Namochakpara both under Shibganj upazila of the district. Police said, the two vehicles collided head on at Koilabari on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway way killing Mozammel on the spot at 8-30 am. Babul succumbed to injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Police on information recovered the dead bodies.
Madrsa student electrocuted in Fakirhat

Obidullah Hawladar (14), a Madrasa student met his tragic end when he was electrocuted at the time plucking jackfruits from a jackfruit tree on Sunday morning. The incident took place at Brahmaznrakdia village within Fakirhat Sadar union under Fakirhat Upazila in the district. Locals said that on the day the ill-fated boy climbed a jack fruit tree to pluck jackfruits from it. But as soon as he claimed the tree a branch of the tree suddenly touched a live electricity supply line passes by its side he was electrocuted. The boy was a student of a Hepzokhana cum Yatimkhana situated near Fakirhat bazar Bialy Bridge and son of one Tarik Hawladar of village Sonaltaly under Mongla Upazila in the district.
Body of college student found in Manikganj

A college student was found dead at Bahirchar in Harirampur upazila on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Nayeem Miah, 20, a second year student of Judge Nurul Islam Khan Degree College and son of Najim Uddin, a resident of the village. Quoting Nayeem’s family members, police said Galib, son of one Ali of the village, called Nayeem out of his house around 8:00 pm on Monday. Local people found the body of Nayeem in a paddy field near his house in the morning and informed police.
