Two killed in Sylhet road crash

A doctor and a private car driver were killed when a truck rammed into the vehicle on Sylhet-Sunamganj road early Thursday. The deceased were identified as–Faisal Ahmed, 35, doctor of Dirai Upazila Health Complex, and private car driver Ismail, 22. Police arrested truck driver Jewel and its helper Md Rafiq. Bishwanath Thana OC Md Rafiqul Islam said, a truck rammed into a Chhatak-bound car around 1am, leaving two dead on the spot. The bodies were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue.
Holy Shab-e-Barat observed
The holy Shab-e-Barat, the Muslims consider as ” the night of fortune” was observed in Sylhet Cityh as elsewhere in the country with due religious fervor and solemnity. The Muslims in Sylhet city and its adjacent district spent sleepless night at mosques and homes, offering prayers, reciting from the holy Quran and seeking divine blessings for long life, peace, progress and happiness for themselves, their families, relatives and friends as well as the nation and the Muslim Ummah. Muslim devotees also spent the whole night at mosques and shrines of Muslim saints offered prayers, zikir, milad mahfils and participated in discussions on the importance of the day. Huge Muslim devotees were seen visiting the mazars of famous saints here like the mazars of Hajrat Shah jalal( R), Hajrat Shah Poran (R) and Hajrat Burhanuddin ( R). The devotees distributed food items and sweets among the neighbors and the poor. Many devotees observed fasting throughout the day today on the occasion of holy Shab-e-Barat. The Muslims consider Shab-e-Barat as one of the three most sacred nights and believe that on this night Almighty Allah writes the fate of all human beings fixing their ‘rizq’ (livelihood) for the coming year.
Workshop on climate change held in Manikganj

Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies arranged a workshop on “Effects of Climate Change in Bangladesh: Expectations and demands of the affected people from Paris Climate Conference yesterday. The workshop was arranged at Koitta in Manikganj . France Embassy and SEDA sponsored the workshop . In the first session was on-reasons of climate change, consequences and international effects including the steps coordinated by the government of Bangladesh regarding disaster management were presented. In the 2nd session, included a group discussion session where the participant farmers, fishermen, business men, government and non-government employees, researchers, teachers, journalist, students, youth as well as handicap people were divided in 4 groups. In the discussion, the participants talked about their expectations and demands from the Climate conference, COP 21 to be held in Paris, France. The workshop was headed Mr. Golam Rabbani, Fellow of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies. Group discussions were directed by Research Executives of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, Mr. Md Sajjadul Karim, Mr. Asadujjaman, Ms. Rukhsar Sultana, Ms. Jebunnahar Ahmed and Mr. Ali Imran. The group discussions were inspected by Ms. Jebunnahar Ahmed , Senior Research Executive. SEDA Chairman Dipak Ghosh, Executive Director Niva Sarker, Project Coordinator Bijon Sarker spoke on the function.
BCL factional clash leaves 6 injured in Barisal

Atleast six activists were injured in factional clash of Barisal city and district units of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabad Textile Institute on Wednesday night and one of them was sent to Dhaka in critical condition on early Thursday. Four out of six injured BCL activists named as Swapan Majumdar, convener of textile institute, Rajiveeb, joint convener of the institute and followers of city BCL president Jasimuddin, Tuhin and Soikat Rahman, BCL activists of the institute and followers of Anik Serniabad backed by district secretary Abdur Razzack, admitted at surgery ward of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. Of them Soikat sent to Dhaka for better treatment after his condition deteriorated, said SBMCH sources. Rafikul Islam Tushar, one of the six injured BCL activists and followers of Razzak faction led by Anik Serniabad in the institute, said he and Soikat were going to SARSTI campus on Wednesday night at about 8:00 PM Wednesday.
