Fire breaks out in gas supply line in Sylhet

A fire broke out in the gas line of Ambarkhana Supply area of the city on Sunday night. Witnesses said the fire broke out in the gas line around 9 pm as there was a flaw in the line. On information, one fire-fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame. The negligence of the concerned authorities is responsible for this fire incident, alleged local ward councilor Delwar Hossain Sajib.
Rain brings relief for Sylhet city dwellers
Sudden rainfall on Sunday has brought a little relief for the Sylhet city dwellers from the unbearable heat continued for the last few days. The rainfall was accompanied with stormy wind which caused the reduction of the temperature. The rain coupled with lightning strikes lashed the city on Friday afternoon, submerging many streets and that disrupted the normal life of the city people also. People were seen waiting for the transport to go their respective places as there was serious traffic jam due to water logging in different parts of the city like Station Road, Kodomtoly, Laldigirpar ,Mirabazar, and Modina market areas for lack of operational sewerage system, worsening the sufferings of the commuters.
BCL cadres ransack land office, assaulted official

Cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League ransacked office of land revenue and assaulted land official as he denied following their instruction. Mizanur Rahman, in -charge of Sagardi union land office situated at Barisal Sadar complex on C & B Road area of the city, said he lodged a general diary with Barisal Kotwali police station on Thursday night as per instruction of the higher authority. Shakhawt Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said they will investigate into the matter. Mizanur Rahman, the assaulted union land officer, told some activists led by one Parvez identifying him self as B M College unit BCL leader, with about one dozen associates on Thursday afternoon entered inside the office. The BCL leader and activists ordered me to issue land revenue receipt (Dakhila) of 76 decimal of land worth some cores of taka at Sagordi union of the city on name of some Sukharanjan, instead of original owner Amulya Nath. When I refused to follow their instruction without any legal documentary evidence about changing ownership of land, the BCL cadres engaged in altercation, broke glass on my table, ransacked office and also physically assaulted me, Mizanur said. Abdur Rouf, UNO Barisal Sadar upazila, said hearing hue and cry he rushed to spot and controlled the situation as BCL cadres left the spot. The victimised officer asked to lodge a general diary in this connection, the UNO told.
One killed in road mishap

A coach passenger named Masud Shaikh (22) was killed and 15 others were injured when a passenger coach of Parjatak Paribahan bound for Mongla met an accident on Mongla-Mawa Highway at Chanderhat under Mollahat Upazila in the district in the early hours on Monday. Abdul Mannan Faraji, Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat district Highways said that the coach was going from Dhaka to Mongla on Sunday night and when it reached the place of occurrence in the early hours it lost its control and dashed against a bridge violently. As a result, 16 passengers were injured. They were rescued by the local people and were admitted to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where passenger Masud Shaikh succumbed to his injuries.
