Speakers at a pre-budget workshop held at Jessore Press Club on Tuesday urged the government to announce a budget that is poor friendly. Practical Action, Bangladesh, in association with Jessore Municipality and Dhara organised the workshop on eve of announcement national budged and budget of Jessore Municipality. Shah Riazur Rahman, Project Manager, Practical Action, Bangladesh chaired the workshop while Jahangir Ahmed Shakil, acting mayor, Jessore Municipality was the chief guest. It was addressed among others by Moksimul Bari Apu, Mostafizur Rahman and Nazir Ahmed, councilors, Jessore Municipality, Jahid Hasan Tukun, president, Jessore Press Club, Atahar Ali, Coordinator, Practical Action, Bangladesh, Saifur Rahman Saif and Tauhid Zaman, journalists, Sabia Sultana, Town Federation, Jessore and Dashrath Kumar Mondol, official, Dhara. Speakers in the workshop urged the government as well as Jessore Municipality to place budgets that will be poor friendly. Taxes will not be imposed on items that are related to the poor and middle class people.
Lineman electrocuted in Joypurhat

An electric lineman Latiful Islam, 30, was electrocuted when he was repairing disconnected electric lines which was snapped by the storm recently.Latiful Islam was injured when he was repairing snapped electric lines. Local people immediately took him to district hospital. Later he was transferred to Bogra Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
701 bottles of wine seized, one held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion-9 (RAB) in a drive seized a total of 701 bottles of wine and held one person from Companiganj upazila under Sylhet district on Monday.
The arrestee was identified as Kawsar Ahmed, 20, son of Abdul Sobhan of Padargawn village of the upazila. Sources concerned said that acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-9 members conducted a drive around 11:00am and arrested him.
Nazrul’s birth anniversary observed
To celebrate the 116th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the 44th founding anniversary of Nazrul Parished, the Sylhet Nazrul Academy is going to organise a Two-day festival at the National Anthem and Nazrul Auditorium in the city. The festival will be inaugurated today after recitations from the Holy Quran by Md Misbauddin, president of Nazrul Academy will preside over the event on the opening day. Razai Rafin Sarkar, secretary of SCC, will deliver the opening speech on the opening day. The Two day programme will feature discussion, seminar, musical soiree, recitation, stage performance and dance performance.
3 women held while selling fake gold
LAXMIPUR: Police arrested three women for selling fake gold at Swarnapotti area in Sadar upazila on Monday night. The arrested were identified as Nasima Begum, wife of Haider Ali, Shilpi Akter, wife of Hazrat Ali, and Shahanara Begum, wife of Saidur Rahman, all hailing from Mirganj upazila of Rangpur district. Police said on a tip off, a team of police conducted a drive in Swarnapotti area and arrested the trio with the counterfeit gold on Monday night. Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Md Gias Uddin said a fraud syndicate has been selling fake gold in the area for a long time. Police will continue their drive to arrest the other members of the syndicate, added the OC, reports UNB.
