One arrested with heroin in Benapole

Benapole Port Thana police in a drive arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered one kilogram of heroin worth about Taka one crore from Sadipiur village of Benapole frontier on Sunday night. The arrested person was Kalu, 45, son of late Amir Box of the same village. On a tip-off, a team of police from the thana conducted the drive at the frontier village and arrested Kalu and recovered the heroin after searching his body, said Sub Inspector of the thana Nur Alam. Officer-in-Charge Arurba Hasan confirmed it and said Kalu will be produced before the court this noon.
2 pistols seized in Benapole
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized two pistols from Gatipara border in Benapole area early yesterday . BGB battalion 26 commanding officer Lt Col Jahangir Hossain said the BGB personnel chased a youth while he was trying to enter Bangladesh territory by climbing the fence at Gatipara border around 2am. The youth ran away, leaving a small package behind. Searching the small package, the BGB personnel recovered two pistols, which were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
Foreign cigarettes worth Tk 70,000 destroyed

A mobile court here yester day destroyed foreign brand cigarettes worth around Taka 70 thousand on charge of violating the tobacco control law. Executive Magistrate Shimul Akhtar told local journalists that the mobile court conducted the drives against smoking in public places-at Zero Point and Sonadighi crossing in Shaheb Bazar and C & B crossing in the city-and found two retailers violating the law. The court also seized different foreign brand cigarettes worth around Taka 70 thousand from the shops. Later, the seized goods were destroyed in front of the people. Under purview of the law, many advertisement signs of the cigarettes were also torn, Shimul Akhtar said. Executive Magistrates Alamgir Kabir and Raihan Ahmed were also present during the drive.
3 held with fake currency notes in Sunamganj
SUNAMGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive held three people with counterfeit currency notes worth Tk 4 lakh from Jamalganj upazila on Sunday. The arrested were identified as Safiqul Islam, 34, Abdur Rahim, 65, and Delowar Hossain, 55. Rab-9 commander Major Abdullah Al Mamun said on a tip off, members of the elite force conducted a drive at Lombabak village in Jamalganj upazila and arrested the trio along with the fake currency notes around 7pm. The counterfeit currency notes include Tk 1,000 and Tk 500 notes, reports UNB.
Hasina’s homecoming day observed in Rangpur
RANGPUR : The 34th homecoming day of Awami League (AL) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was observed here today through various programmes with a fresh vow for building a middle income nation. The district, the city, ward and upazila units of AL and its front organisations chalked out programmes, including hoisting of the national and party flags, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu’, brining out colourful ‘ananda’ rallies in the city. General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city unit vice-president Shah Md Nabiullah Panna, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, AL leaders Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Dilshad Hossain Mukul, Idris Ali, Convener of district Jubo League Rashedunnabi, district Chhatra League President Mehedi Hassan Ronny, addressed among others, reports BSS.
