A youth’s hanging body was recovered from Khadim Nagar area in the city on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Pavel Ahmed, 22, son of Sonay Mia of Chholia village under Sadar upazila. Airport Police source said, on information, they recovered the body hanging of Pavel from ceiling fan from his bed room around 10:00am. The body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Collage Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Wine worth Tk 10 lakh seized
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives seized a total of 654 bottles of Indian Wine and 23 bottles of Beer in Sylhet early Tuesday. Sources concerned said, acting on a tip-off, BGB members conducted several drives at Companiganj upazila under Sylhet district and Duara Bazar upazila of Sumanganj district and seized a total of 654 bottles of Indian Official’s Choice wine and 23 bottles of Beer from abandoned condition worth Tk around 10 lakh.
4 youths sent to jail for violating girl in Barisal

A Barisal court on Monday rejecting bail prayer sent four youths to jail for allegedly violating a school girl at Kagashura area under Charbaria union of Sadar upazila in Barisal city skirt. The accused four youths were Kawsar Hossain,22, lover of the victim, Sajal Hossain, 21, Miraz Khandokar,25, and Babu Sardar, 22, said Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, officer in charge of Kawnia police station under Barisal metropolitan police. Police sources said Kawsar, the prime accused, alluring the school girl victim by love-trap called to a nearby garden at 9:30 PM on May 1 and then with associates gang-raped her. The victim after returning home became sick and the incident later flashed to family members and they informed police. Police visiting spot, talked with the victim and collected evidences. Then we operating drive arrested the four accused on early Monday from the area after a case was lodged by the victim and sent the arrested accused to court, the police official said. Nasrin Jahan, metropolitan magistrate, rejecting bail prayer of the accused ordered to send them to jail on Monday afternoon and asked for medical test of the e victimised school girl court sources said.
6 hurt at Barisal B M College over taking drugs on campus
Six including two teachers were injured in clash between students over taking drugs in the campus at Barisal Government Brojo Mohun (B M) College on Sunday noon. College canteen was ransacked during the clash and panic gripped the campus. Police charging baton controlled the situation. The injured six were identified as Maskud Ali teacher of Management, Golam Morshed, teacher of History departments, Yusuf Hossain, Shahidul Islam, Abu Sayem and Md. Rumman, students of Management department. The injured took treatment at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. Witnesses said Yousuf Hossain, first-year student of Management and his friends were taking drugs at Commerce Faulty building on Sunday noon. Rumman, fourth-year student of the department, was beaten by the drug addicts, while he protested the activity. Hearing the news associates of Rumman rushed to the spot and beat drug addicted Yusuf. Then both group of students engaged in clash spreading to college canteen area over the issue. Teachers failing to control the situation called police and charging baton police dispersing both groups controlled the situation, said Shakhawt Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge.
AL president barred from entering Jessore dist office

Jessore District Unit Awami League President Shahidul Islam Milon could not be able to enter the party office as it was locked following the visit of the lawmaker for Jessore -3 Kazi Nabil Ahmed. Shahidul Islam Milon alleged that he found the district unit office of the ruling party at Daratana shut as he went there on Saturday. ‘MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed was scheduled to visit the office this (Saturday) evening’, he added. The AL office finds locked during every visit of the local lawmaker. Followers of the general secretary do the act, the ruling party district unit president said. The faction of the ruling party brought out a procession in protest in the town on Saturday night. Shahin Chaklader, General Secretary, District Unit, Awami League , however, denied the allegation and said the office was found locked as the office staff Shahabudding was in a three day leave.
