A fifteen-member Executive Committee for Rajshahi University (RU) Unit Chhatra Front was formed yesterday with Alamgir Hossain Sujon as president and Shamsuzzoha Sadique as general secretary. The new committee was declared by Janardon Dutta Nantu, central president of Chhatra Front in its 11th council held at central cafeteria of the university. The other office bearers are-vice president Tashnuva Tahrin Antora, organizing secretary Kamrul Hasan Shishir, office secretary Shakila Khatun, publication and publicity secretary H R Himel, library affairs secretary Mashkur Rahman and others.
Knowledge Convention held in Rangpur

The second regional Knowledge Convention held yesterday in Rangpur underlined the importance of gathering and sharing learning gained from the grassroots. Several International NGOs such as Plan International Bangladesh, ActionAid, Practical Action, VSO Bangladesh, Oxfam, Concern Worldwide jointly organised the daylong convention at RDRS auditorium in Rangpur. The objective of the convention was to have a common space for development agencies to create and share knowledge and mutual learning on issues such as poverty eradication, food security, livelihood, education of marginalised children, ending child marriage etc. Dr.Tariqual Islam of Action Aid Bangladesh delivered welcome speech while Professor Dr. A. K. M. Nurun Nabi, Vice-Chancellor, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur delivered speech as chief guest in the inaugural session of the event. Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur, attended the function as special guest.
Properties worth Tk 20 lakh gutted in Kachua

Properties worth Tk.20 lakh were gutted when a gas cylinder basted in the village Kathalia within Maghia Union Parishad under Kachua Upazila in the district on Saturday morning. It is learnt from the locals and the Bagerhat fire brigade source that on the day at about 9 am a gas cylinder (used for cooking purpose) blasted in the house belonging to banker Suresh Kumar Kundu. The fire originated from the blast engulfed adjacent 2 other houses within moments and went out of control. Being informed of the matter a fire brigade unit rushed to the spot from Bagerhat and brought the fire under control with the help of the local people after a long fighting for one hour.
Sewing machines distributed in C’nawabganj

Sewing machines were distributed among 25 poor women of Char Anupnagar village under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Monday evening. The machines were distributed after completion of a month long training on sewing. The concluding function of the training programme was held at the Char Anupnagar branch office of the non-government organization Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society with its executive director Md. Hasib Hossain in the chair. Wife of the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Farzana Hoque attended the function as chief guest while upazila nirbahi officer of Chapainawabganj sadar Mirza Shakila Dil Hasin and manager of Palli Karmo Sahayok Foundation Md. Lutfar Rahman attended it as special guests.
Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society arranged the training programme under its ‘UP-Ujjibito’ project funded by European Union and associated by Palli Karmo Sahayok Foundation.
