Govt decides to set up agriculture training institute in Manikganj

The government has decided to set up a Modern Agriculture Training Institute under a project in Mymensingh to provide trainings to the students and farmers on latest agriculture technology to boost agriculture production in the country. The institute will have a modern laboratory for developing different crops, training facilities for the farmers and students as well as a four-year-long agriculture diploma course. Zahid Malek MP, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, formally laid the foundation stone of the institute at Dotara village under Saturia upazila of the district as chief guest on Sunday evening. The Local Government Engineering Department will implement the project at a cost of Taka 27 crore on 8 acres of land.The foundation laying ceremony was also addressed, among others, by Benzir Ahmed, Project Director of Agriculture Extension Department, Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Administrator of Manikganj Zilla Parishad, Md Ramjan Ali, President of Manikganj District unit of Awami league and Adv Abdus Salam, Mayor of Manikganj Pourasava. The function was presided over by Alimuzzaman Mia, Deputy Director of the DAE.
Gold smuggler’ placed on remand in Jessore
BENAPOLE: A court here on Sunday placed Nur Islam, who was arrested by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along with 2.5 kilograms gold from Benapole Check Post on April 7, on a two-day remand. Jessore Judicial Magistrate Pronab Kumar passed the order when police produced the accused gold smuggler before the court seeking seven days’ remand for him.Earlier on April 7, members of BGB arrested Nur Islam, a staff of a land port agent, along with 21 pieces of gold bars weighing 2.5 kilograms from no-man’s-land area of Benapole. The market value of the recovered gold is Tk 1.25 crore. BGB filed a case in this connection, reports UNB.
Man strangled by robbers
COMILLA: A man was strangulated to death and his wife injured by robbers during a robbery incident at Malipara village in Nangalkot upazila early Sunday.The deceased was identified as Abul Khayer,50, a resident of the same village.Locals said a gang of robbers, numbering 7/8, swooped on the house of Abul Khayer and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint around 2:30 am.Later the robbers looted two tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk9,000 and other valuables from the house.At one stage, the bandits strangulated Abul Khayer as he resisted them, leaving him dead on the spot. Abul Khayer’s wife Kulsum was also injured as the robbers stabbed her when she was trying to save her husband. The injured was admitted to Nangalkot upazila health complex, reports UNB.
2 held with fake currency notes
CHANDPUR: Police in a drive arrested two members of a currency forger syndicate along with fake currency notes worth Tk 1.46 lakh from a residential hotel at Chairman Ghat in the town on Friday.The arrested were identified as Khasru, 42, son of late Ratan Ali of Bashbari village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj district, and Giasuddin Raju, 36, son of late Shafiullah of Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district.Police said acting on secret information, a team of police conducted a raid at no. 16 room of Hotel Asia and arrested two people along with three fake notes of Tk1,000 denomination in the afternoon.Following confessional statement of the duo, police recovered 143 more fake notes of Tk 1000 denomination, kept inside the cover of a sofa set in the night, reports UNB.
