Chandpur Correspondent
A total of 14 teen- aged boys of Bishnudi area under Sadar Upazila were awarded new bicycles as reward for offering their prayers five times daily in jamaat for 40 days in the Bishnudi Baitus Salat Jamey Masjid. The competition started right from July 31and it ended on Sep 8. In this connection, a simple ceremony was held on Friday afternoon at the Baitus Salat Jamey Mosque premises on Bishnudi Road. The Mosque’s Imam Maulana Joynal Abedin presided while an expat employed in Italy Mohammad Omar Faruk, his kin and local elites Maulana A Rahman Gazi, and others spoke. Local elites A K Azad, Tanvir Hossain, Abu Taher Gazi among others were present on the occasion. It may be recalled here that while at home, in July last, the expat (employed in Italy)Omar Faruk Mia, also a social worker, assured the teen aged boys that if they can offer their prayers five times daily in the mosque’s jamaat for forty days, each of them will be rewarded with a new bi- cycle by him. He declared it openly so that the teen agers might come to the path of Allah/Islam and lead a decent life and thus be away from drugs and drug addiction which are actually eating into the vitals and morality of the society. With grave concern, he said,” Many boys are now a days going astray instead of study and offering prayers in mosques due to the bad impact and influence of drugs”. Accordingly, 17 local teen aged boys got their names enlisted. The Mosque’s Imam and Muazzin sahib kept careful eyes on them all in the mosque. Of them only 14 boys came out successful. Last Thursday forty days were over. And they were given the new bi cycles on Friday afternoon. When asked, a few recipients- Emon Miji, Junaid Gazi and Shihab Miji and others said, ” We are simply excited to get the new bi- cycles”. They have added, they will continue offering prayers and never give up this practice. The matter has become talk of the area.
