Fishing boat to be equipped with tracker
Barishal Correspondent
The authourity has been decided to equip offshore and coastal fishing boat with location tracking devices. At least 69 such devices have been installed in the fishing boats of Barishal division in last one month, officials said. With this device not only can track location with the fishing boats, but boat owners also can hear weather signals through this device. Divisional deputy director of Bangladesh Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project (BSCMFP) Kamrul Islam in this regard said, in coastal areas, seagoing and coastal fishing boats would be introduced with a location dictation device called Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM), but fishermen are unaware of its functioning. We have already registered 9000 fishing boats in Barishal division whose speed is above 13 horsepower and have started installing a device called AGCM on such fishing boats and trawlers. The process of installing the device started on July 11, so far 44 devices have been installed in sea going fishing boats and trawlers of Charfashion and 25 of Tajumuddin upazilas in Bhola district, he added. This device will basically give an idea about its location and will provide guidance about the whereabouts of the range of the vessel up to 55 km from the coastline.
Through this, the fishing vessels will give a signal about where it is in the water-boundary of Bangladesh. It is even possible to send weather alert messages to the installed device.Although this device has no monitor, it will be controlled from the server located in Chittagong coast.
Initially, 21,000 sea-going fishing boats and trawlers operating on sea-going and coastal areas across the country are likely to be equipped with this device.
Saidur Rahman, marine officer of Charfession upazila of Bhola district, said that although there are 6,000 coastal-fishing boats in the district, only 44 boats have been equipped with this device. Now location could be traced through it. But it is not launched yet, I don’t know when it will be launched.
