Power supply disrupted in Barisal after nor’wester

Hit of nor-wester disrupted power supply in Barisal for about four hours on Sunday afternoon till night. Tarikul Islam, executive engineer for division-I and Shree Amulya Chandra Sarkar, acting executive engineer for division-1, of West Zone Power Distribution Company in Barisal, said power distribution was stopped in all of 14 feeders of Barisal WZPDCO after nor-wester started hitting Barisal district from 4:00 PM. The power supply was stopped as branches of trees breaking on lines damaged or endangered distribution and safety of the people and properties, the WZPDCO officials explained. After crossing of nor-wester in Barisal district at 5:00 PM, staffs of WZPDCO started checking of power distribution lines and completing checking and repairing damages started resuming power supply from 7:30 PM Sunday night, they informed.
BGB seizes Indian illegal medicines in Jessore

Border Guard Bangladesh men early Thursday seized huge quantities of Indian illegal sex stimulated medicines and injections raiding Bakchar in Jessore town, said Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion. The BGB CO told New Nation that acting on a tip off the BGB personnel raided the area at around 2am on Thursday and seized 160,050 pieces of sex stimulating tablets and 205 pieces of injections. Referring to doctors the BGB official told that the medicines are hazardous for health. None was arrested in this regard.
Man held with Phensidyl in Sylhet

Members of Rapid Action Battalion-9 (RAB) in a drive arrested a person along with 160 bottles of Phensidyl from Natun Bridge area of Kanaighat Upazila under Sylhet district on Tuesday.The arrestee was identified as Abdul Malek, 30, son of late Abdul Hannan of Agarchati village in Satbag union under the upazila. RAB sources said on secret information, they conducted a drive in Natun Bridge area and seized 160 bottles of sedative cough syrup and also arrested the trafficker.The seized Phensidyl and arrestee were handed over to Kanaighat Police Station. A case was filed in this connection, the sources said.

A man was killed and six others injured as a truck hit two human haulers in Tebaria rail crossing area of the district town on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Shawkat Pramanik, a local trader. Fire service sources said the truck loosing control over its steering hit two human haulers in the area in the morning, leaving Shawkat dead on the spot and six others injured. On information, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.Later the injured were admitted to Sadar hospital.

PANCHAGARH: Detectives in a drive arrested three members of an drug trading syndicate from Amersari at Boda-Debiganj Highway in Debiganj upazila on Friday. The arrested were identified as Rezaul, 30, son of Mozammel Haque, Rajendranath, 40, son of Beni Mohon of Pamuli Shantirhat area of Debiganj upazila, and Julfiker, 25, son of Abu Sahid of Shibrampur Gonopoita area of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them., reports UNB.
