Workshop on drug abuse, trafficking held

A one-day workshop was held in Bhangura upazila of Pabna to formulate an integrated action plan to build a social movement to curb drug abuse. UNO Mohammad Nahid Hasan Khan presided over the workshop held at the M. Hossain Ali Auditorium on Sunday . SI Mostafizur Rahman of Pabna Narcotics Control Department delivered the keynote address at the workshop. Upazila Chairman Md Baki Billah, OC Faisal bin Ahsan, Upazila Vice Chairman Golam Hafiz Ranju and Azida Parveen Pakhi were present at the time. The workshop was attended by public representatives, government officials, journalists, teachers, tribals, imams and civil society representatives. Earlier, a discussion meeting was organized on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Among others UP Chairman Golam Faruk Tukan and Sultana Jahan Bakul,Press Club President Prof.Mahbub-ul-Alom,Social service officer Jahidul Islam spoke on the occasion.
Two arrested with cannabis

Police have arrested two people with cannabis in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria. The accused are – Rafiq Mia father deceased Abu Shyama, Sang-Adampur Bashar Chairman Bari, Thana-Bijoynagar, District-Brahmanbaria and Robin Hossain, son of Hiran Mia, Sang-Dalpa Dakshin Para, Thana-Bhangura, District- Comilla. SI Jewel Rana Bhuiyan, ASI Sumon Barua along with allied forces conducted a raid on Rafiq Miah’s house in Adampur area of Pattan UP and arrested them on Friday. After searching the witnesses present at the time, Alamat recovered 4 kg of cannabis, seized it and arrested them and brought them to the police station. In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mirza Md. Hasan admitted the truth of the incident and said that a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act and he was sent to jail through the court.
Transport workers’ workshop held

A five day-long awareness workshop on traffic rules and conduct on public transport was held among the drivers, helpers and transport workers at Tarash, Sirajgan at the initiative of the Upazila Administration and funded by the local government and Japan International Agency (JICA) at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday. Acting Chairman of Upazila Parishad Anwar Hossain Khan was present as the chief guest at the function presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Mejbaul Baul Karim.
