Views exchange meeting on media held

The media is the fourth pillar of a state. The role of media in establishing good governance is undeniable. This was stated by Md. Touhiduzzaman, Deputy Chief Information Officer (DOD) of Rangpur Regional Information Office in a keynote address at an exchange meeting titled ‘Role of Media in Establishing Good Governance’ was held at the Conference Room of Rangpur Regional Information Office (PID) on Tuesday . He said the media serves as a bridge between the government and the people. The media is a mirror of society. If there is independent media in any society / state then there will never be famine in that state. The government enacts the Right to Information Act to ensure the free flow of information. This law states that any person has the right to information. He also briefed the journalists on the activities of the Information Department and its field level offices. ASM Kabir, director of Rangpur district information office, said the government has formed an information commission to ensure the right to information.
Two rice mills fined

The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined the owners of two rice mills in Ishwardi for marketing under the name of another brand on Tuesday . Zahirul Islam, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Department in Pabna fined the mills. Zahirul Islam said Sahab Uddin Mallick alias Nannu Bihari, owner of Mallick Agro Food Auto Reach Mill in Arankola Harukhali field, was fined Tk. 50,000 and Anwar Hossain, owner of Allahdan Agrofood Complex in Dhulati area, was fined Tk. 20,000 for marketing using another brand name. He further said that the rice mill owners were marketing their own rice using different brand names including Bengal Special Rice, Bismillah Auto Bachai Basmati, Bhai Bhai Miniket, Kushtia Traditional Special Miniket, Rose Flower Marka Miniket without packaging their own name. Ishwardi Upazila Food Control Officer (Additional Charge) Shariful Islam and Upazila Safe Food Inspector Sanwar Hossain were present.
