Man held with 11 gold bars at Sylhet airport

Customs officials arrested a man along with 11 gold bars weighing around 2.16kg from Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Friday morning. The arrested person is Md Ali Ahmad, hailing from Ujan Meherpur Dorgarbazar area in Gopalganj upazila of Sylhet district. Md Al Amin, deputy commissioner of customs intelligence, said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-248 from Dubai landed at the airport around 7:00am.
On suspicion, customs officials challenged Ali Ahmad when he was crossing green channel and recovered the gold bars concealed in a nebulizer machine. The market value of the recovered gold bars is around Tk80 lakh, he said.
Fire killed 2 goats in Tarash

Fire gutted a house was burnt to ashes and two goats were burnt to death and one cow was in a state of semi-melting. It has caused a loss of 3 lakh rupees at Katabari village in Saguna union of the upazila. As a result, the house of Ardus Ali, son of the late Harf Ali, was burnt down and 2 goats were burnt to death and 1 cow was half-melted. The chairman of the union Zulfikar Ali Bhutto went to the spot and informed 60 tons of garlic, 60 tons of corn, furniture and clothes of that family have been burnt to ashes. According to local sources, Ardus Ali is keeping 1 cow as a hobby.The fire started when a coil was lit in the barn to protect the cow from mosquito bites at night. When the locals saw the fire in the middle of the night and rushed to control it, all the belongings in their house including the house were burnt to ashes. The house was not later as it was a brick house but everything including the piers of the house was burnt. There is a possibility of breaking the rice at any time.
Stalker jailed for harassing schoolgirl

A mobile court has sentenced a young man named Sohag to 35 days in jail for harassing a schoolgirl in Barguna. Accused Sohag is son of Abdur Rashid of Ukil Patti area under Barguna municipal town Deputy Commissioner’s Executive Magistrate (Land) Nizam Uddin conducted the mobile court on Saturday . The mobile court sentenced accused Sohag, under section 509 of the IPC, to 35 days imprisonment without parole. Eyewitnesses said that on their way to school, Sohag was detained when he was teasing two schoolgirls in front of Adarsh School in Barguna town. Later locals detaining him handed over to law enforcers. Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed said the jailed sentenced Sohag was sent to jail by the court in the afternoon.

Mobile Court is operated at Hospital Road Borhanuddin, Kunjarhat Bazar, a private clinic, a few diagnostic centers and a pharmacy in Borhanuddin Municipal Town in Bhola on Saturday, the Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Saifur Rahman conducted the operation. UNO Saifur Rahman said the clinics and diagnostic centers in the campaign showed proof of registration application. They have been given an ultimatum to complete the registration by contacting the Civil Surgeon’s Office within three days.
In addition, the Janakalyan Diagnostic Center on Hospital Road has been fined Tk 2,000 and Popular Diagnostics Tk 5,000 for using expired reagents. Syed Pharmacy was fined Tk 10,000 and Ranjan Pharmacy in Kunjarhat was fined Tk 40,000 for selling expired drugs and veterinary products without a license. Fake doctor Shafiul has been fined Tk 20,000 at Ranjan Pharmacy.
