477 HSC examinees absent on 1st day

The first day of Higher Secondary Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations was held in Sylhet without any untoward incident. The examination began at 10am and ended at 1pm. Total 477 students absent 1st day in Sylhet Education Board. Md Abdul Mannab Khan, Exam Controller of Sylhet Education Board told that the first day of the examinations under Sylhet Education Board was held without any untoward incident.According to Sylhet Education Board sources, the examinations in 75 centres under the board.This time a total of 49290 examinees sat for examinations. Total 477 students absent 1st day.Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Shohidul Islam said that they beefed up security during the time of the examinations. ‘We have visited a number of examination centres of the city and observed that the examinations were going on without any hindrance,’ said the DC
BCL leader held with knives, exam copies

The ongoing stalemate of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) is over after the arrest of a BCL leader with two knives and some examination copies from the campus , Professor Dr Abdus Sattar, Vice Chancellor, JUST told The New Nation. ‘The atmosphere of the university is alright now. The students will now be able to do their academic activities peacefully,’ the VC added. The block raid led by executive magistrate Abdus Salam and Milu Mia Biswas, assistant superintendent of police, Jessore was started at around 12:30 pm and continued about 4pm, Sheikh Goni Mia, officer in-charge, investigation, and Kotwali police station told New Nation. ‘ Sheikh Shakil Ahmed, vice president, JUST unit Bangladesh Chhatra League along with another were arrested along with the two knives, equipments for taking Yaba tablets and two empty bottles of beer,’ he added.In the name of general students, the Bangladesh Chhatra League had been staging agitation programmes on the politics free campus of Jessore University of Science and Technology for the since Saturday.
National Film Day celebrated in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: National Film Day-2015 was celebrated in the district yesterday in a befitting manner as elsewhere in the country. Marking the day, District Information Office at the directives of Department of Mass Communication under the Ministry of Information chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with district administration. The programmes included bringing out rally in the district town and screening famous and popular film ‘Manpura’ at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy. Besides, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of Zila Shipakala Academy with acting district information officer Sabiha Akter Lucky in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique addressed the function and inaugurated the film screening programme as the chief guest. President of Gaibandha Press Club KM Rezaul Haque was present as the special guest. A large number of students, teachers, cultural personalities and social workers including journalists of print and electronic media attended the programme, reports BSS.
