Workshop on citizen charter held

A workshop titled ‘Citizen Charter: Accountability in Social Economy and its Impact’ was held on Bangladesh Open University (BOU) campus in Gazipur on Saturday. BOU Service Delivery Action Plan Implementation Committee organized the daylong workshop while its Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter addressed the programme as the chief guest. Prof of Essex University in the UK Dr Shahjad Uddin joined the workshop as the key speaker with BOU pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Nasim Banu in the chair. Addressing the programme, Dr Humayun Akhter said, “We have taken an initiative to finalize a citizen charter for ensuring different services in an easier way for the BOU students after identifying their problems. He emphasized on job-and people-oriented education. Key speaker Dr Shahjad said citizen charter for students is most important for ensuring quality services. Presenting a comparative picture between the citizen charter in Bangladesh and the UK, he said the citizen charter was launched in the UK in 90’s decade to ensure uninterrupted services in time. Though it was tough to implement the citizen charter in Bangladesh in the beginning time, Dr Shahjad, said the people at grassroots level are now getting the services as per the charter.
Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament inaugurated

The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football (Under-17) Tournament was inaugurated at at the Borhanuddin Government High School ground as the chief guest on Thursday. Upazila Executive Officer Md. Saifur Rahman inaugurated the tournament . Speaking at the opening ceremony, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Saifur Rahman, Panel Mayor. Harun Aur Rashid, OC Shaheen Fakir BRDB Chairman. Jasimuddin, Chairman of Tobgi Union Md. Jasimuddin, General Secretary of Upazila Sports Organization Sarwar Shimul and others. Sarwar Shimul, general secretary of the Upazila Sports Association, said a total of ten teams were taking part in the tournament. In the opening match, Municipality XI defeated Tobgi Union XI by four goals to two. The match was conducted by Faizul Islam Fayez. Assisted him, said. Jewel and Rajan Panchayat.
Rice procurement inaugurated

Prof Abdul Quddus, Member of Parliament for Natore-4 (Baraigram-Gurudaspur) constituency inaugurated internal Boro rice procurement activities at Bonpara Food Godown in Baraigram, Natore. On this occasion, a meeting was held at the food godown premises on Wednesday. The Officer-in-Charge of Bonpara Food Godown Abdul Mannan presided over the meeting. Chief Guest Professor Abdul Quddus MP, Special Guest Upazila Food Controller Afroza Parveen, Upazila Awami League President Abdul Quddus Miyaji and Food Inspector Ruhul Amin spoke on the occasion. Besides, President of Upazila Rice Mill Owners Association Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, General Secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique, Organizing Secretary Bashar Miaji, Treasurer Alhaj Md. Mobidul Alam Babul, various mill owners of the area were present. Upazila Food Controller Afroza Parveen said the government has set a target of purchasing rice at the rate of Tk 40 per kg till August 31, 2022 in the current rice procurement season.
School girl drowns
A school girl named Tania Khatun (6) drowned in the Nandakuja river in Atgharia area of Baraigram in Natore. The deceased Tania was identified as daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Atgharia area of the upazila and a student of class one of Atgharia BRAC school. Locals said Tania did not know how to swim. Tania’s parents forbade her to bathe alone in the river. In absence of her family members, Tania went to bathe in the Nandakuja river about 400 yards from her house around 10 am on Wednesday. There he fell into the river water and drowned. Not finding him, parents started searching in different places of the village. According to the speak of a child, hundreds of people started searching in the water of Nandakuja river and after searching for 3 hours,Tania was found unconscious.
The incident has cast a shadow of mourning among the relatives and neighbors of the deceased.
Three thieves arrested in Tarash

Three thieves have been arrested along with stolen goods in Tarash Sirajganj on Thursday. Tarash police conducted a special operation and arrested the three thieves along with their belongings. Under the direction of Sirajganj Superintendent of Police Hasibul Alam, BPM and Assistant Superintendent of Police Ullapara Circle Mahfuz Hossain and under the supervision of Thana Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam and on the advice of Inspector of Police (Investigation) Noor Alam, SI Debabrata Kumar Biswas with his accompanying force visited Baruhas Union Boro Powta and Bastul arrested them from the area and brought them to the police station. The detainees are from Boro Powta village of Baruhas union of the upazila 1. Md. Kawsar Ahmed (22), son of Shahidul Islam. 2. Md. Ibrahim (52) Son of Shamsul Alam and 3. Md. Anwar Mollah, son of late Ahmed Mollah of Bastul village. In this regard, Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of the police station, said that they were arrested on the basis of secret information and handed over to the wise court.
