Day labourer commits suicide

One day labourer committed suicide taking pesticide due to family feud at Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram and died on Wednesday noon. The deceased was identified as Farid Miah 28 son of Ashraf Ali of village Purba Baghbhandar under the upazila.Locals and police said Farid used to quarrel with his wife Babita due to family feud for long. Farid’s wife made a quarrel with his husband about marketing for Eid on Tuesday. At one stage of their quarrel Farid took pesticide. Later he was taken to Bhurungamari upazila Health Complex in a critical condition on Tuesday night. But when his condition was deteriorated was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the same day for better treatment where he died in the morning on Wednesday.
Child drowned in pond at Fulbari
One child was drowned in a pond at Fulbari upazila in Kurigram on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Senikda 2 son of Abdus Salam of village Taluk Simulbari under Simulbari union of the upazila.Chairman of Simulbari union council Shariful Islam said the child was playing near the pond adjacent of his house and slipped into the pond and drowned while I was unknown to all. Later the neighbor found the body and begun to shout. The villagers however recovered the body. Officer-in-charge of Fulbari police station Fazlur Rahman ensured the incident.
Two traders fined for selling oil at higher prices

The Department of Consumer Protection has imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 and Rs 100,000 on two oil traders for selling more than the price fixed by the government in Rangpur.
The operation was carried out at the godown of J Pal Company and SS Traders adjacent to Collectorate School in the city on Wednesday afternoon. The campaign was led by Afsana Parveen, Assistant Director, Rangpur District Consumer Protection Department.
Afsana Parveen said that despite the official directive to sell soybean oil at Tk 180 a liter, Biswajit Pal, owner of J Pal Company, sold it at a wholesale price of Tk 183 a liter. SS Traders also failed to show any sales receipts. According to a tip-off, 1800 liters of soybean and 9100 liters of pump and super oil were stored in the J-Paul company’s godown and 13 thousand liters of soybean and 36 thousand liters of pump wells were stored in the godown of SS Traders. Later, the owners of the two companies were fined Tk 50,000 and Tk 100,000 respectively. It also directed to take necessary steps to sell the stored oil at a fair price. Afsana Parveen further said that in the last few days in the ongoing crisis over soybean oil, about 74,000 liters of oil was extracted from various godowns in Rangpur and measures were taken to sell it at a fair price.
School student commits suicide in Baraigram

A school student Aranya Koraiya (18) of Baraigram in Natore, committed suicide by hanging himself at his bed room of Bhabanipur Christianpara village in Baraigram upazila. Aranya is the son of Ranjit Koraiya and a student of class X of Ramagari High School. According to his family sources, he committed suicide in his bedroom at some point after 12 midnight on Monday. Aranya and her mother Shyamoli were in the same house till 12 midnight on Monday. Then Aranya goes to sleep in the next room and tells her mother to wake up in the morning to go to private reading. On Tuesday morning, his mother went to Aranya’s bed room to awake him up. But she saw him hanging from a teer of room with a rope around his neck. She started shouting.
