Founding anniv of Jugantar celebrated in Bagerhat

The 23rd founding anniversary of The Jugantar, a National Bengali daily of the country was observed here in a simple but impressive manner on Tuesday under the auspices of its (Jugantar) Bagerhat district based correspondent Shawkat Ali Babu. On this occasion a lively discussion meeting was held in Bagerhat Press Club Auditirium with its President Nihar Ranjan Saha in the chair. But unfortunately the daily’s local correspondent could not attend the ceremony due to his serious illness. So, Md. Yamin Ali, Bagerhat district based correspondent of Jamuna TV channel delivered the welcome speech explaining the aims and objects of the daily on behalf of the daily’s (Bagerhat) correspondent. Mohammad Mobasserul IslamIt, UNO, Bagerhat Sadar while was addressing the discussion as the chief guest he explained the role of a newspaper in a newly born democratic country like Bangladesh and wished the longevity of the daily (Jugantar). The chief guest also prayed for the quick recovery of its Bagerhat correspondent from his illness. The discussion was also addressed among others by Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary of Bagerhat Press Club and Prof.ABM. Mosharraf Husain, senior most and founder member of Bagerhat Press Club and Bagehat District based Correspondent of the English daily The New Nation also wished the longevity of the daily Jugantar and early recovery of its local correspondent from the illness.
Teacher representatives elected in Ishwardi Womens’ College

Three teachers representative (TR) were elected in the regular Governing Body of Ishwardi Mahila College for the year 2022-2024 on Monday. Among the elected teachers’ representatives are Nasreen Akhter Hena, Assistant Professor of Economics, Matiar Rahman Chanchal, Assistant Professor of History and Abdul Baten, Lecturer of History and General Secretary of Ishwardi Press Club. The principal of the college formally congratulated the newly elected teacher delegates. At that time, he handed over the gazette to the newly elected personal and requested them to fulfill the responsibilities of teachers’ representatives in the regular governing body. Ismail Hossain, Vice-Principal of the college and other teachers were present at the time.

Miscreants have hacked a man to death after cutting off one of his legs in Kanaighat Upazila of Sylhet over previous enmity centering a Facebook post on Monday.The deceased was identified as Farid Ahmed, 30, son of Rafiq Ahmed from Khasaripara area of the upazila in Sylhet district. Local said, January 31 on Monday at around 4:30 pm, a group of miscreants hacked to death a young man named Farid Uddin near FIBDB Primary School in Barakheor village of Laxmi Prasad East Union of the upazila. Kanaighat police station Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam confirmed the matter. Local people said, on Monday, Farid was riding a motorcycle on way to his home from the local kitchen market when a group of people obstructed him.
They hacked Farid mercilessly with locally-made sharp weapons and left the scene after cutting off his left leg.
Farid lost a huge amount of blood and died on the spot.
Shahin Ahmed, who was with Farid at the time, was injured during the attack. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Police said that they would investigate the matter.
