One killed in Shibalaya road accident

One person was killed and another injured when a long-distance passenger bus collided with a CNG at Paturia Ferry junction in Shibalaya Upazila on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. The accident happened on Wednesday afternoon. The injured woman passenger has been admitted to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Ahad Ali Bepari of Ghoradaha village under Pabna’s Sujanagar Upazila. Shibalaya Highway Outpost in-charge Riaz Mahmud said a passenger named Lutfar Rahman, 50, was killed on the spot and another woman, ManomatiMandal, 45, was injured when a speeding passenger bus of HanifParibahan pushed CNG at the Paturia ferry junction. The bus was detained in the accident but the driver escaped.

Pitha Festival held in Sylhet Ideal College

A day-long Pitha festival was held on the Sylhet Ideal School and College premises of Akhalias in Sylhet City on Thursday. Freshers’ reception of SBF Nursing Institute held

Lalonirhat SBF Nursing Institute run by Sonar Bangla Foundation celebrated Navin Baran Utsav through discussion meetings, crest giving and cultural programmes. Retired Secretary and Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation Hosne Ara Begum NDC was the Chief Guest at the function held at the premises of Nursing Institute on Wednesday. DC Abu Jafar presided over the function. Distinguished economist Professor Mozammel Haque was the special guest. Deputy Director of Local Government Department Rafiqul Islam, President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Hamid Babu and freedom fighter Dr. Shafiqul Islam Kanu were present in the function. Welcoming remarks were made by Principal Major (Retd.) Saleha Begum.
At the end of the discussion, a pleasant cultural programme was held. Principal of Government Nursing College, lecturers of the institute, students and journalists were present at the occasion.

2 held with buprenorphine injection, heroin
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) arrested two alleged drug peddlers with 282 pieces of buprenorphine injection and 1.87 kg of heroin in two separate drives on Wednesday in the district. The arrestees are Md. Shah Alam, 32, of Upachakpara village and Md. Jalal Ali Biswas, 30, a resident of Chakerghat village under Shibganj upazila of the district. On a tip off, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted at Jalmachmari Binpara area under Shibganj municipality at 3.30 pm and arrested Shah Alam
with 282 pieces of buprenorphine injection. The elite force in another drive arrested Jalal Ali with 1.87 kg of heroin from Moharajpur Ghorastand area under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila at about 6.20 pm. Later the arrested persons were handed over to the concerned police
