Horse race held at Muktagacha

The traditional horse race was held in a wide field near the house of Nandibari Gias member of the municipality at MuktagachaUpazila in Mymensinghd on Saturday. Former Acting Mayor of Muktagacha Municipality late Riaz Uddin Siraj Smriti Sangsad organised the competition. Competitors from different parts of the country including Rajshahi, Naogaon, Jamalpur, Netrokona, Tangail along with different upazilas of Mymensingh took part in the competition on horseback. Haji Nazrul’s horse from Jamalpur became the champion in the final round of the competition. As a special attraction in the last episode, Taslima, a teenage horse rider from Naogaon and Sonia from Rajshahi took part in a special race with their horses. Muktagacha Municipality Mayor Alhaj Billal Hossain Sarkar was the Chief Guest in the competition presided over by Moniruzzaman Dudu Municipal 1st panel mayor. Among the special guests and others were acting chairman of Upazila Parishad Alhaj Arab Ali, female Vice Chairman Murshida Akhter Kakli, second panel mayor of the municipality Balur Rashid, former councilor Jahangir Alam and General Secretary of Siraj Smriti Sangsad Omar Farooq. Thousands of spectators from different parts of the country came to enjoy the lost heritage horse race.
2 drug dealers arrested

Two drug dealers including cannabis, phencidyl and foreign liquor have been arrested in Ishwardi in a raid by the Narcotics Control Department. Two raids were conducted on Saturday afternoon and night under the leadership of Ishwardi ‘B’ Circle Inspector Sanwar Hossain. In the afternoon, drug dealer Tariq bin Aziz (26) was arrested in a raid conducted in Shahid Aminpara area of the municipal area on the basis of secret information. At that time, 110 (one hundred and ten) grams of cannabis was found hidden in the house in a special way. In another operation, Jewel Rana (27) was arrested from Ishwardi Bypass area (Fateh Mohammadpadpar Uttar Para). Six bottles of Phensidyl, 40 empty bottles of Phensidyl and 8 empty bottles of foreign liquor of different foreign brands were recovered from his house. Sanwar Hossain, an inspector at the Narcotics Control Department, said the arrested Jewel Rana had been running a drug business for a long time with the help of his elder brother Alamgir Hossain. There were also allegations of drug dealing against them. At the same time, 220 grams of cannabis was recovered from the house of Parul, wife of their sister Rabiul. He said Parul fled at that time. A case has been filed against the detainees at Ishwardi police station under the Narcotics Act.
