3 Shibir activists detained in Sylhet

Police have arrested three activists of a student camp during a secret meeting at the library of the government-run Alia Madrasa in Sylhet On Wednesday (December 29) at noon. A team of metropolitan police raided the Government Alia Madrasa in Chauhatta, Sylhet city and arrested them. Police recovered two motorcycles and several leaflets from the spot. Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Deputy Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh confirmed the News and Said, The detainees were identified as Aminur Rahman, son of Abdul Gafur of Atgaon village under Jalalabad police station in Sylhet suburb and Shah Ahmed Tanvir Ahmed, son of Asad Miah of Silam in South Surma. He said they launched the operation in the morning after receiving information about a secret meeting of Shibir activists on the basis of secret information. Sensing the presence of police, some leaders and activists fled through the back door. Meanwhile, the police official said that they will look into how the Shibir activists got the opportunity to hold a secret meeting in the library of a government institution. Police said legal action was being taken against the detainees.
LGED workshop held in Manikganj

A workshop on “Water, Sanitation and Planning of health rules and doing for future” was held on Wednesday at the Quamrul Islam Hall of LGED under the joint auspices of LGED and Bicosito Bangladesh Foundation (BBF),a reputed NGO.The speakers in the discussion said that Bangladesh is known as a country of sweet drinking water but due to climate change, misuse of water and some weak establishments the situation is changing day by day. Executive Engineer Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Md Fayjul Haque present at the function as the chief guest. “To achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-6 by 2030 with the proper implementation of planning, we have to work jointly,” he said addingthat BBF is our partner at the field-level. The Executive Director of BBF Zakaria Sumon said BBF is working for development of water, sanitation and health rules through continuous advocacy meetings. Representatives of working on water, sanitation and health rules, upazila level workers of LGED, local journalists and members of civil society were present.
14 drug addicts arrested in Panchbibi

RAB arrested 14 drug addicts from Atapara area of Bagjana Union at Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat on Wednesday afternoon. The detainees were identified as Chanchal Singh (30) son of Nakul Singh of Turipara mahalla of the upazila, Rezaul Karim( 21) son of Abdur Rashid of Matkhur village, Shahin Alam( 20) son of Faruk Hossain of West Ramchandrapur village, Karimul Islam(20) son of Babul Islam and Farid. Ali’s son Jahangir Alam (19), Samad Ali’s son Rabbi Hossain (20), Tareq Mollah (30) son of Shafir Uddin Mollah of Masterpara village, Riday Singh (22) son of Nayan Singh and Rubel Islam (28) son of Lutfar Rahman of Sarkarpara village. Bimal Maddi(21) son of Mann Maddi of Rambhadrapur village, Prant Chauhan(19) son of Kamal Pahan, Riday Akand(21) son of Amjad Akand of Uttar Gopalpur village, Rabiul Islam(26) son of Anwar Islam and Liton Hossain(20) son of late Shafi Uddin of Vuidoba village(36). Lt. Commander Taukir, Company Commander of Joypurhat RAB Camp, said that they were arrested while they were using drugs. Later, a case has been filed against the arrested drug addicts at Panchbibi Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
