Confce on plants environment, food security at BAU

The first two day-long International virtual Conference on Plants for a Sustainable Environment and Food Security was held at Bangladesh Agricultural University(BAU), Mymensingh on Saturday for sharing plant physiology, ecology, biodiversity and conservation, medicinal and aromatic plants, and climate-smart agriculture issues, hosted by the Bangladesh Society of Plant Science and Technology (BSPST).
Considering the health issues, the conference was held on online zoom platform. Dr. Md. Solaiman Ali Fakir, convener of the BSPST and Prof of the Department of Crop Botany at Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh was chaired the inaugural session and Prof Dr. Shamsul Alam, State Minister, Ministry of Planning, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest. Prof Dr. Lutul Hassan, VC of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Prof Dr. Md. Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan, VC of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Professor Dr. Md. Giashuddin Miah, VC of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, delivered their speeches as special guests. Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Baset Mia, member secretary BSPST, delivered the welcoming address and Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahamed, former Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka, delivered the keynote talk.
Youth killed in Sylhet road accident

A 35-year-old man was killed and another injured when a truck hit their bike in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet on Thursday night, police said. The deceased was identified as Nurul Boksh, son of Akmol Boksh from Tillapara area of the upazila. The accident occurred around 10:00pm on a busy road near a fuel outlet in Alinagar area of the upazila. Both the men on the bike sustained severe injuries in the crash. ‘Nurul died on the way to hospital, while Sahel Boksh, 23, is currently being treated at North East Hospital,’ said Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector at Dakshin Surma police station.
