View exchange meeting held

A human rights and good governance organization organized an exchange meeting on the implementation of the policy in the Hall Room of the Rangpur Public Library on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by Adv Ilyas Ahmed, Vice-President of Rangpur District Branch of Bangladesh Awami League.

Rangpur City BNP General Secretary Md. Shahidul Islam Mizu said 33% why we want to see 50% women in various committees of political parties. Former Vice Chairman of Gangachara Upazila Kshant Rani Roy said that everything should not be seen from a political point of view and real empowerment of elected women representatives is very important. Aparajita Tara Begum of Chandanpat Union presented the main article of the discussion. An exchange of experiences on policy implementation was held under the auspices of Feroz Nurun-Nabi duo, program coordinator of Democracy Watch’s Aparajita project.

Child dies from wrong treatment

A four-year-old girl named Shumona died allegedly at a private hospital in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila after undergoing wrong medical treatment. After giving 5 consecutive injections before cutting the abscess, the child died on the operating table due to seizures. The incident took place at Janani Clinic and Diagnostic Center in Ullapara Municipal Area on Monday night. The owner closed the clinic after the incident and fled immediately. Suma Khatun, the mother of the slain child, said she went to Ahsanul Haque, a doctor at the local Janani Clinic and Diagnostic Center, to cut abscess on her daughter Sumna’s back around 8pm on Monday. The doctor gave five consecutive injections on Sumna’s back, then convulsions started and she died on the spot immediately. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station Humayun Kabir said, “No complaint has been lodged so far. Action will be taken if any complaint is received.”

Foundation training on journalism concluded

Three-day foundation training on journalism ended at the office of Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) on Thursday.
Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) organised the training programme for the members of JUJA.

Director General of PIB Zafor Wazed chaired the function while JU Pro-VC( admin) Professor Sheikh Manzurul Haque addressed as the chief guest.
Director of university’s Institute of Remote Sensing and JUJA adviser Professor Sheikh Tawhidul Islam, co-ordinator of the workshop Zilhaz Uddin Nipun and member of PIB’s research cell Enayet Haque Reza among others, were present at the programme.
A total of 35 journalists from print, electronic and online media attended the training programme.
