Bicycles, scholarship distributed

Under the development assistance, education scholarship’s checks and bicycles were distributed among the students of small ethnic groups in Bagatipira under Natore district. On the occasion, a meeting was held at the Upazila Auditorium recently. Shahdul Islam Bakul MP of Natore-1 seat (Lalpur-Bagatipara) distributed the scholarship checks of Tk 1.32 lakh among 40 students and five bicycles to five students. Also, he gave away Tk 8.70 lakh among 17 illness persons. Upazila Parishad Chairman Ohidul Islam Gokul, Vice Chairman Abdul Hadi, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nashiat Anjum, Bir Muktijoddha Shyamal Kumar and others were present on the occasion.

A seven-year-old girl was raped inside a grocery store in Hajirai village under Gowainghat police station in Sylhet. Police arrested Sharif Mia, 19, from the village on Monday night. The arrested Sharif is the son of Tajjamul Ali of Hazrai village. Sharif Mia, who was arrested at noon on Tuesday (November 18), was sent to jail by a court on a charge of rape. Meanwhile, the child’s father became the plaintiff in the rape case and filed a case against Sharif Mia at Gowainghat police station alleging rape. Police said the child went to buy chocolates at his arrested Sharif grocery store at 8am on Monday. The child was grabbed from behind the shop and raped when no one was around. When the child started crying at one stage of the rape, Sharif let her go for fear of telling anyone about the incident. Later, the child went home in a bloody state and started crying and informed the whole family about the incident. When the incident became known, Sharif closed the shop and fled. The child was later rescued by the police and sent to the One Stop Crisis Service (OCIS) of Sylhet Osmani Medical College. He is currently undergoing
