Lockdown to stay until June 6

The government has extended the ongoing lockdown by another week until June 6 as there has been no substantial improvement in the Covid-19 situation.
The Cabinet Division issued a circular in this regard on Sunday, reports UNB.
Earlier, the government had extended the lockdown till May 30 after allowing public buses to run at half of their capacities in the country.
All concerned, including passengers, will have to maintain health protocols like wearing masks, saida circular issued on May 23.
Besides, hotels and restaurants will be allowed to keep open, also with half of their capacities.
The authorities concerned have been asked to take necessary steps in this regard.
As coronavirus cases kept growing at an alarming rate since mid-March, the government had imposed a ‘loose’ nationwide lockdown for one week from April 5 as part of its move to contain its spread.
Later, a ‘stricter’ lockdown was announced from April 14 to 21. Then the lockdown had been extended several times considering the situation. On April 23, the Cabinet Division issued a notice allowing shops and shopping malls to operate from April 25 (10am-5pm) on a condition that they would maintain safety protocols properly.

The national technical advisory committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recommended to bring seven bordering districts under lockdown amid the fresh surge in Covid-19 infections.
The districts are – Naogaon, Natore, Satkhira, Jashore, Rajshahi, Kushtia and Khulna.
A decision in this regard is likely to come today (Sunday).
A member of the committee told media that recommendation has been given at a meeting on Saturday.
He said infection rate is higher in that districts. Besides, the committee has expressed concern over the situation in Noakhali and Cox’s Bazar.

12 corona patients die at
RMCH in single day

Twelve people have died of COVID-19 and with the virus symptoms at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in last 24 hours.
The hospital sources informed that they died from 10am on Saturday-10am on Sunday.
This is the highest death record from deadly coronavirus at the RMCH in a single day after identified Indian variant in the country.
Of the 12 people, seven were from Chapainawabganj, two from Rajshahi, two from Naogaon and the rest one was from Natore.
RMCH deputy director Dr Saiful Ferdous said eight patients, undergoing treatment at the hospital, died from the coronavirus while the four with the virus symptoms.
A total of 50 patients died from May 24-29. Of them, 23 have been infected with the coronavirus.
Number of COVID patients are increasing at the RMCH day by day.

Amazon, Google register for VAT

Tech giants Google and Amazon acquired Business Identification Number (BIN) from the National Board of Revenue last week to run their business in Bangladesh while ensuring value added tax (VAT) compliance.
The companies will now pay a 15% VAT on revenue earned from the country.
Google got its VAT registration certificate on May 23 and Amazon on May 27. These tech giants earlier paid VAT through banks, reports UNB.

Both companies got the BIN as non-residential companies. PwC Bangladesh, the consultant appointed by both ventures, did the paperwork processing for them and will act as their VAT consultant.
