Auto-rickshaw driver killed in Sylhet road crash

An auto-rickshaw driver was killed after his vehicle collided with a bus at Parua Point in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Motin Mia, 40, son of Nur Uddin of Burideao village in the upazila. The accident took place on Sylhet-Bholaganj Highway when the bus collided with the auto-rickshaw around 6am, leaving Motin critically injured, said Sajal Kumar Kanu, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station. Later, he was taken to Companiganj Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. After the accident, locals and other auto-rickshaw drivers blocked the Sylhet-Bholaganj Highway, halting the vehicular movement. Later, they withdrew the blockade after Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sumon Acharya promised to take necessary steps in this connection. Police recovered the body and sent it to Syllhet MAG Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
Elderly man gets artificial leg
An elderly man was fitted with a prosthetic leg at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital free of cost on Tuesday on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Orthopedic Surgery department of the hospital implanted the artificial leg with the assistance from Endolite Bangladesh. Hospital director Brig Gen Mohammad Yunusur Rahman, deputy director Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, assistant director Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Dr Pronoy Kanti and head of the Orthopedic department Dr Shankar Kumar Roy were, among others, present there.
Leaflets distributed for preventing coronavirus
GAIBANDHA: Leaflets distribution programme has been started on Wednesday in the district for preventing coronavirus outbreak and to make the people aware about the disease. Superintendent of police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam inaugurated the distribution programme at a function in the district police lines of the town as the chief guest. SP Towhidul Islam underscored the need for preventing coronavirus outbreak anyhow to save the people from the catastrophe. “As over 10 persons of the country have been infected with COVID-19, there is no alternative to conduct campaign to make the people aware about the disease”, he said. SP also discouraged the people to avoid all kinds of public gathering, meetings and rallies and urged them to maintain one-meter distance from one another. Later, he distributed the leaflets inscribed with how to spread coronavirus and its symptoms and preventive measures. A special munajat was also offered seeking the blessing of the Almighty Allah to save the countrymen from the COVID-19. Additional police Rahaat Gowhary, additional police super-B circle Moynul Haque and officer-in-charge of Sadar police Station Khan Mohammad Shahriar and media men were present on the occasion. As many as 20,000 leaflets would be distributed to the people of the district through involving the OCs and the inspectors of the seven police stations here., reports BSS.
