Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebrated

Mongla Port Authority (MPA) has celebrated birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due respect on Tuesday. The Port Authority earlier chalked out elaborated day-long programme marking the day. The programme was begun with lighting of candles after one-minute past of the midnight followed by hoisting of the National flag and releasing balloons and pigeons at MPA premises. Officials of the MPA paid rich tribute to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at 9.30am at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Later, a discussion on the life, works and achievement of Bangabandhu and his struggle over Bangladesh’s independence was held at the conference room. Chairman of MPA Rear Admiral S M Abul Kalam Azad attended the discussionas chief guest while Yasmin Afsana, member (Finance) of MPA and Captain Mohammad Ali attended as special guests with Deputy Secretary of MPA Gias Uddin in the chair. The programmes also include screening of documentary on “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh and distributed copies of ‘Bangabandhur Oshomapto Attojiboni’ among all the MPA staff. After Johr prayer, dua, milad mahfil and special prayers were also offered at MPA mosque seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and continuous peace and prosperity of the nation.

Whip of Bangladesh Parliament and Member of Gaibandha-2 (Sadar) constituency Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, MP (right) visited the floriculture research field of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Sunday. At this time Director General of BARI Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab with other scientists and officers were present. Director General of BARI Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab welcomed the guest at the time of arrival in the institute. At this time BARI Director (Support & Services) Md. Habibur Rahman Sheikh, Director (Tuber Crops Research Centre) Dr. S. M. Sharifuzzaman, Chief Scientific Officer of Floriculture Division Dr. Kabita Anju-Man-Ara, Principal Scientific Officer Dr. Farjana Nasrin Khan, scientists of various division, officers, among others, were present on the occasion. Later Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, MP visited the floriculture research field of BARI and expressed her satisfaction in the activities, advancement and achievements of BARI.
Young man electrocuted in Jashore

A young man was electrocuted at Baliadanga Khanpur in Manirampur upazila on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Mukunda Roy, 35, son of Amulya Roy of the area. The incident took place in the afternoon when Mukunda, a carpenter, came in contact with a live wire while working with a drill machine at his house, said sub-inspector of Manirampur Police Station Ashraful Alam.
