Arms trader held with pistol, ammo in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged arms trader in possession of one pistol, two magazines and seven rounds of bullet from Barroshia area in Shibganj upazila on Tuesday night. The arrestee was identified as Ashraful Alam Babu,30, son of Saidur Rahman, a resident of Munsihpara of the same upazila.Assistant Superintendent of Police Qamrul Ahsan of Chapainawabganj Rab-5 said on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Babu at about 6:45 pm.The Rab members also recovered one pistol, two magazines and seven rounds of bullet from his possession.
6 dwelling houses gutted in Bhola
BHOLA: At least six dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at South Charnoabad village under Sadar upazila here early this morning. The fire originated from an electric short circuit from a house around 3 am and soon engulfed the adjacent houses. Firemen with the help of locals brought the flame under control at 5 am, reports BSS.

International Women’s Day was observed in Sylhet districts as elsewhere in the country and the globe on Sunday in a befitting manner with a vow to free the womenfolk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination. Marking the day, district administration and department of women affairs chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with Banagladesh Manobadhikar Commission Sylhet district and city, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad. Later, a discussion meeting organized by district administration and department of women affairs, Banagladesh Manobadhikar Commission Sylhet district and city was held at the Roshid Amproriam of the city at noon with additional police commissioner S.M Rokun Uddin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and Dewan Tofik Mozid Laek, Advocate Shamsul Islam, Prof. Jubeda Konok Khan, Shorif Ahmed Loskor, Mahbubul Alam Milon were present as the special guests.
Female found dead in Benapole

Beanpole port police on Wedneday night recovered the body of a girl in hanging condition from near Sonali Bank in the port city, said Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge, Benapole port police station. The dead was identified as Asma Khatun, 16, wife of Babu Sarder of Bhaberber under Benapole port police station. Habibur Rahman, sub inspector, Benapole port police station told that being informed by the locals the police recovered the body in hanging condition from near Benapole branch Sonali Bank at around 10.30pm on Wednesday. ‘The body wore marks of tortures’, he added. Apurba Hasan, officer in-charge, Benapole port police station told that the body was kept at the police station after recovering it.
Two firearms seized in Benapole
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized two foreign made pistols from Gatipara bordering area here on Thursday night. Tipped off, a team of BGB-26 conducted a drive in the area and recovered two foreign-made pistols from the area in the night, said Captain of BGB-26 Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Alam. However, no one was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee away.
