Workshop for journo ended in Gaibandha

The two-day long training workshop for the journalists on “Strategic Communication to Ensure Good Governance” concluded here on Tuesday with a call for making government adopted five strategies a success in every sphere of the society . Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin attended the concluding ceremony as chief guest at the Circuit House conference room. National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) organized the workshop under Platforms for Dialogue (P4D) Project being implemented at 21 districts including Gaibandha through the British Council under guidance from the Cabinet Division . The DC said present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adopted strategies like National Integrity Strategy, Right to Information Act-2009, Citizens’ Charter, Grievance Redress System and Annual Performance Agreement for ensuring public services to the people to build a welfare state”. Deputy Director on NIMC Abuzar Gaffari, programmer Abdus Salam, Sub Assistant Engineer Mohammad Rasel and journalist Riktu Prasad among others addressed while District Information Officer Haider Ali presided over the function. ” The journalists of both print and electronic media could play a vital role to attain the cherished goals of the government against the strategies and popularize it to the people through publishing responsible reports about it in their respective media outlets, the DC added. Later, DC Abdul Matin formally distributed certificates among the participants as the chief guest. Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Prasun Kumar Chakrabartee, programmer of NIMC M. Abdus Salam, Research Officer Fahim Siddiquee, conducted different sessions on the strategies as resource persons.
One held with arms, ammo at Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a young man along with arms and bullets from Benapole here on Sunday night. Tipped off, a BGB team conducted the drive there around 8pm and arrested Sabuj Miah, 24, son of Tota Miah, hailing from Larua Kundo village in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka, said Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion.They also recovered one pistol, two magazines and seven bullets from his possession, Reza said.
AGM of Narsingdi Diabetic Assoc held

The annual general meeting (AGM) of Narsingdi Diabetic Association was held at its hospital conference room here on Wednesday. Local lawmaker and former state minister for water resources Lt Col(retd) Nazrul Islam (Bir Protik)attended the programme as the chief guest with president of Narsingdi Diabetic Association and deputy commissioner Syeda Farhana Kawnine in the chair. The function was addressed, among others, by vice president of the association and civil surgeon Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Titon, vice president Mohammad Momen Sarker , general secretary Mohammad Nural Amin, joint secretary Aminul Hoque Bachchu, organizing secretary Haronur Rashid and Treasurer Ishaq Mollah Duldal. The chief guest said Bangladesh already achieved laudable success in health sector. The present government, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been implementing massive programmes for further development in the health sector to ensure quality medi-care services for every citizen. He said diabetic patients should maintain disciplined life. They will have to take balanced food and conduct regular physical exercise for controlling the silent killer disease. After the meeting, the chief guest along with deputy commissioner visited ailing Motaher Hossain Razvi, vice president of the same association who is now undergoing treatment at Narsingdi Diabetic Hospital.

Razvi has been suffering from stroke since June 23 in 2019. After five months treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka, the family members are bound to shift him to Narsingdi Diabetic Hospital for financial crisis.
Youth commits suicide in Chhatk

A man named Ahmed Ali, 20, committed suicide by hanging his neck with a tree along the road recently. Police recovered the body of a hanging from a tree on the Bangabandhu road of Kalaruka union of the upazila on Monday afternoon. Ahmed Ali is the son of Jalal Miah from the village of Mritagaon in Kalaruka Union. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Sunamganj morgue. A Ud case has been filed in the police station.
