3 drug traders detained

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained three alleged drug traders with phensidyl and yaba tablets in Markesh Petrol Pump area under Shah Makhdum Police Station in the city early Friday . The arrested persons were identified as Muhammad Saifuddin, 29, Muhammad Tazu, 21, and Muhammad Doller, 38, RAB sources said here this afternoon. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid in the area around 2.15 am and arrested the drug trading gang members. The RAB team also recovered 631 bottles of phensedyl and 710 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession after searching a truck and a private car.

The Floriculture Division of the Horticulture Research Center of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has arranged a trainers training workshop recently at the seminar room of the Horticulture Research Center. A total of 30 participants including BARI scientists, DAE officials and MS student from various agriculture universities participated at the training workshop. BARI Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Md. Miaruddin present as chief guest. Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. Abeda Khatun presided over the function while Director (Tuber Crops Research Centre) Dr. S M Shrifuzzaman and Project Director of Integrated Nutrition and Farm Management unit of DAE Krishibid Mritunjoy Roy. Chief Scientific Officer of Floriculture Division and Project Director Dr. Kabita Anju-Man-Ara gave the welcome address while Principal Scientific Officer of the Floriculture Division Dr. Farjana Nasrin Khan conducted the function.
One held with 77 turtles in Khulna

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 arrested a smuggler with 77 rear wild turtles from Ghona Bandha village area under Dumuria upazila of the district on Wednesday night. The arrested was identified as Ramesh Mistry, 34, of Ghona Bandha village of the upazila. A special team of RAB-6, being informed, conducted the drive around 10 pm at the residence of Ramesh while he was selling turtles wrapped into four sacks, operation officer of RAB-6 major Md Anisuzzaman said. Ramesh is the member of wild turtles smuggling group, he said, adding that Ramesh is trading wild turtles across the country including Cumilla, Chandpur and Bikrampur of Dhaka for long. He was handed over to Dumuria Police Station with a case, the RAB official added.
