Training on arsenic testing held in Rangpur

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) organised a day-long training course here on arsenic testing under its Community-based Development Initiative (CDI) to WASH Programme on Friday. Rangpur unit of BDRCS organised the training course at its office in association with the Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) under finical assistance of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.Members of the Community Programme Committees (CPC), Disaster Preparedness Committees (DPC) and Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRT) of Najirdigar Community-1 and Padmapukur-Beramukim Community-2, officials of the DPHE and BDRCS participated in the training course.BDRCS has been implementing the CDI to WASH Programme for ensuring hygienic sanitation, supply of pure drinking water and improved sewerage systems for 822 families living in these two backward communities. Earlier, BDRCS successfully implemented the two-year CDI programme at Najirdigar Community-1 under Ward No-31 in the city and Padmapukur-Beramukim Community-2 in Mithapukur upazila to improve socioeconomic conditions of these families.
Creating awareness to stop women repression stressed

Speakers at a human chain programme here yesterday underlined the need for creating awareness of the people to help stop violence, repression on women and child marriage.
The human chain formed in front of central Shahid Minar in the town was organized by District Administration and Department of Women Affairs to mark the International Women’s Day.People from all walks of life took part in the hour-long programme. Deputy Commissioner Md. Shahabuddin Khan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Moshaerul Islam, District Women Affairs Officer Md. Lutful Kabir and women leaders including Adv. Shamim Ara, Shamima Khanom and Rasheda Faruki spoke on the occasion.

Speakers at a view-exchange here yesterday said that the BNP-Jamaat led 20-party alliance is out to destabilize the country in the name of movement at a time when the country is running smoothly under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They said the innocent people are being killed with petrol bombs and torching the vehicles at the behest of BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia. The Awami League would thwart the conspiracy and anarchy of BNP-Jamaat alliance taking the patriotic people of the country with them, they said. They were exchanging views with the old allowance card holders of Bayra Union under Singair Upazila of the district. Mamtaz Begum, MP, was present in the function as the chief guest. Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Administrator of Zila Parishad and President, of District Awami League, Advocate Abdus Salam, Public Prosecutor (PP) and General Secretary of Manikganj District Awami League and Abdul Majed Khan, General Secretary of Singair Upazila Awami League were present on the occasion.
6 shops gutted in Morrelganj

Properties worth Tk.50 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Laksamner Bazar locally known as Naya bazar , a rural market within Hogglabunia union under Morrelganj Upazila in the disrict in the early hours of Friday. Locals informed that on the day at 2 am when the people fell asleep the fire originated from a hardware shop belonging to one Shafikul Islam of the bazarr spread to its adjacent shops and dwelling house without any resistance and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of fire and on hearing the hue and cry of the shopkeepers the neighboring people and the villagers rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for 2 hours. But in spite of that five shops and one dwelling house with their all belongings were burnt to ashes.
