Four held with arms in Sirajganj

Detective Branch (DB) police arrested four people with arms and ammunition from Talgachi bazaar area of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Monday. The law enforcers at that time seized four lethal weapons and four rounds of fresh bullets from them. The arrestees were identified as- Shahidul Islam, 51, of Meghulla village of Belkuchi upazila of the district, Asadul ,32 of the same village, Dulal Sarkar,35 of Azugra village and Zakir Hossain, 26, son of Siraj Uddin of Deewantala Betil Char area. Nazmul Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Detective Branch (DB) said, “On secret information, a team of DB police made a drive at Talgachi bazaar area on Bogra-Nagarbari highway. While on operation, they challenged a private car and arrested four people with arms and four rounds of fresh bullets.” “There are multiple cases against the arrested Shahid and Asadul. Among them, the accused Shahidul was sentenced to 18 years in a case. He is currently out on bail from the High Court. The other two arrested are their assistant”, the SI also added.
BARI arranges Field Day, farmers’ gathering

The Entomology and the Olericulture divisions of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) jointly arranged a Field Day and Farmers’ Gathering on on-going research programs and recently invented technologies at the research field of Entomology Division on Thursday. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Kamalaranjan Das inaugurated the Field Day and Farmers’ Gathering as chief guest. BARI Director General Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab presided over the ceremony while global plant breeding lead scientist of the World Vegetable Center Taiwan’s Dr. Peter Hanson and former director of BARI Dr. Sayed Nurul Alam were present as the guests of honor. BARI Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. Abeda Khatun, Director (Support & Services) Md. Habibur Rahman Sheikh and Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gazipur Mr. Mahbub Alam were present as special guests. Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Entomology Division Dr. Debashish Sarker gave the welcome address. Speaking on the occasion, BARI Director General Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab said there is a certain limit of pesticide use on crop to control pests. But we are not obeying it. As a result, it has a detrimental effect on public health. I hope that from this field day, the participants will get a better understanding of it.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) training workshop has been organized on strategies for using social media. The workshop will be held at Sylhet in-service training center from 9am from Wednesday . The instructor in the workshop was Mike Parker, a retired commander of the American Police. The training workshop was held under the US Department of State Bureau of Counter Terrorism and the US Department of Justice, the International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program. In the workshop, 6 of the SMP police stations 30 of SI rank took part. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Training) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Mohammad Zabedur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Jaden Al Musa and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Sadar) Shahriar Al Mamun were also present on the occasion.
