Gold ornaments worth Tk 66 lakh seized in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized gold ornaments worth about Taka 66.28 lakh from frontier area Singnagar Haldapara under Jibannagar upazila of the district recently.On secret information, a BGB team conducted a raid in the area on Monday afternoon and recovered the gold ornaments. Sensing the presence of BGB the smuggler fled away leaving the ornaments, the releases added. The smuggler came to Bangladesh from India with the ornaments, it said.
Dacoities on rise in Dakkshin Surma

The incidents of dacoity have allegedly risen in different areas of Dakshin Surma Upazila under Sylhet district recently. Panic gripped the people of the areas, especially Lalabazar and Tetly union, as four to five such incidents were reported in a couple of days. On January 28, a gang of 15-20 bandits entered the house of Munayem Khan Babul in Valki Village by breaking open the door around 2:30am. They held the family members hostage and looted Cash money, three bharis of gold ornaments, three mobile phone sets and other valuables. They also beat the family members.
Locals alleged that burglary and docoity are taking place frequently in the areas. They also demanded more surveillance to tackle the situation. A case was filed with Dakshin Surma Police Station in this connection.
SSC examinee ‘commits suicide’ in Chandpur

A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house in Hajiganj municipality area on Monday. The deceased was identified as Nusrat Zahan Mim, 15, a SSC examinee of Hajiganj Pilot Girls’ School and College. Being informed by local people, police recovered the hanging body of Mim from her house in the afternoon and sent it to local hospital morgue.
