The 7th foundering ceremony of Asian TV channel was celebrated here in a befitting manner on Saturday morning with the initiative of its Bagerhat based correspondent Md. Kamruzzaman. On the occasion, a colourful rally that was brought out from Bagerhat Press Club premises paraded the main roads of the district town and ended at the same venue. It was led by Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat and Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, President of Bagerhat Press Club. It was followed with a lively discussion meeting in the Press Club auditorium with its President Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain in the chair. Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super Bagerhat addressed the discussion meeting as the chief guest and told, a TV channel can play a very important role in a modern country as well as in a modern society. Drug peddler arrested in Barishal

Unit -8 of Rapid Action Battalion operating a drive in Vatikhana area of Barishal city on Saturday night arrested alleged drug peddler Pijush Das, son of late Dilip Das of Laukathi Patuakhali. RAB recovered 135 pieces of Yaba from his possession, issuing a press note RAB-8 said. Ismail Hossain, deputy assistant director RAB-8, lodging a case under narcotic control act with Kotwali police station handed over the drug peddler to police on Sunday. The arrested drug peddler sent to jail on Sunday afternoon after produced before the court, RAB sources added.
Pitha Utsab held in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam at a function has called for highlighting the rich Bengali tradition, culture and heritage to the young generations to enlighten them with own social customs and values. He made the call after inaugurating a day-long “Pitha Utsab-2020” (Cake Festival) at RCCI Public School and College ground in the city on Monday as the Chief Guest, a press release said. The RCCI Public School and College, being run by Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), organised the festival to inspire the young generations in upholding the rich Bengali tradition, culture and heritage. President of RCCI Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu and its Senior Vice- president Mostoba Hossain Ripon addressed the function as special guests with Principal of the institution Professor (Retd) Muhammad Abdul Jalil in the chair. The female students of the institution had set up 17 stalls on the ‘Pitha Utsab’ premises displaying over 100 varieties of traditional Bengali cakes giving campus a buoyant look. Hundreds of cheerful students, guardians, teachers, youths, adolescents, women and children attired in traditional dresses participated in celebrations of the ‘Pitha Utsab’ amid huge festivities, , reports BSS.
