Two Yaba traders held in Bhairab

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive in Bhairab town, at least two drug traders arrested with 5800 pieces of yaba tablets on Tuesday night. The arrested are Masba Uddin (32) son of Md. Abdul Majid at Purba Patuli village in Bajitpur upazila and Mobarak Hossion (30) son of Monu Miah at Shahpur village in Bajitpur upazila. Company Commander & Additional SP of RAB- 14 of Bhairab Rafiuddin Mohammad Jubeyer told the New Nation that the arrested men are notorious and involved drug business. A case under Narcotiec Control Acts was filed in this connection with Bhairab Model Police Station. They were sent to Kishoreganj District Jail.
USA expatriate killed in Habiganj road crash

A USA expatriate was killed and four others were injured after a truck crashed into a private car on Dhaka-Sylhet highway of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin, son of Alim Uddin, hailing from Bairagibazar Khashir Namnagar village at Kurabazar union of Bianibazar upazila. He was used to live in USA. According to local sources, the Dhaka-bound truck rammed the Sylhet-bound private car carrying them in the area, leaving Ruhul dead on the spot and his family members injured.
Re-excavation of Sundarganj canal begins
GAIBANDHA: Re-excavating work of a canal from South Samash Kutipara under Sreepur union to Bazra Kanchibari under Kanchibari union of Sundarganj upazila in the district began on Thursday. An inaugural function organised by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) here was held at Bazra Kanchibari village of the upazila this afternoon. Lawmaker Barrister Shameem Haider Patwari attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and UNO Soleman Ali also spoke at the event as the special guest with executive engineer of BADC (Irrigation) Chittaranjan Roy in the chair. Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been working relentlessly for overall development of the country since 2009. The government also took initiative to re-excavate the derelict canals across the country to return the navigability of the canals so that the farmers could boost production of crops through using the water of the canals as irrigation. The lawmaker also urged the contractor and the officials of BADC to be more serious and punctual in discharging their duties aimed at completing the work timely and properly without any criticism. Executive engineer of BADC Chittaranjan Roy said BADC would implement the work at the cost of TK one crore under its Greater Bogura and Dinajpur Small Irrigation Project and the work would be expected to complete by February, 2020. Later, the lawmaker formally inaugurated the re-excavating work of 8.70 km canal by cutting earth with spade as the chief guest. A number of BADC officials, political leaders, public representatives, and local elite including journalists of print and electronic media attended the programme, reports BSS.
Woman found dead in Cumilla
CUMILLA: Police recovered the body of a woman from a tomato field in Nobipur village of Barura upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, 26, daughter of Majed Mia of the village. Satyajit Borua, officer-in-charge of Barura Police Station, said the body was recovered at 11pm. She was gagged with a towel. The body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. The OC said a case will be filed in this regard, reports UNB.
