Information Fair ends in Khulna

A two-day long Information Fair ended here on Wednesday with basic objective to inform the people about Right to Information (RTI) Act-2009 at city’s Public hall premises . District administration and District Sachetan Nagarik Committee (SANAC) jointly organised the fair. Deputy Director of Local Government Department Ishrat Jahan attended the closing ceremony of the fair as the chief guest
Chaired by President of SANAC Prof Anwarul Kadir, the function was addressed, among others, by Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Md. Asaduzzaman, Additional Police Super (Circle-B) Md. Sajib Khan, Prof Jafor Imam and women leader Rosy Rahman as special guests. Speakers mentioned that successful implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) act can play a vital role towards supplementing the government efforts of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Anti-corruption debate and quiz competition was also held followed by cultural function at the fair premises. Later, the chief guest distributed crest among the winners who were participated in the information fair.
Five establishments fined Tk 1.75 lakh
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined five business establishments Tk 1.75 lakh for selling adulterated food items, not using digital weighing machines and not maintaining hygiene standards here last month.Different teams of BSTI conducted drives in five business establishments including a petrol pump and fined the money after filling a total 21 cases in December last, said an official release issued on Monday. According to the release, the drives against scrupulous business persons and establishments will continue.
Properties worth Tk7 lakh gutted in Morrelganj

Properties worth Tk 7 lakh were gutted when some miscreants allegedly set fire on a shop atS Barsibawa village bazar within Ramchandrapur Union under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district at Monday night. The shop belonged to Riaj Shikdar, son of one late Abdul Majid Shikdar of the village Barsibawa and a Jubo League leader of the Union (Ramchandrapur). It is learnt from the younger brother of Riaj Shikdar and the locals that he (Riaj) has been in jail hajat for long 6 months in connection with a criminal case. So the shop had been closed for 6 months. At the night of occurrence on seeing the flame of fire some neighbouring people rushed to the spot and found that the closed shop of Riaj had caught fire. On information, younger brother of Riaj reached the spot and they jointly brought the fire under control after a long fighting for about an hour.
Woman killed, 4 others hurt in road accident
A woman named Rina Begum (35) was killed on the spot and 4 others were injured when their auto-van rickshaw was run over by a BRTC passenger bus (Dhaka Metro Ba-11-2775) bound for Khulna on Bagerhat-Pirojpur Highway at Mahispura under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday noon. It is learnt from the police and the locals that at the noon the ill-fated woman and her children were going from Badhal bazar under Kachua Upazila in the same district to their village home in Kumarkahali under Morrelganj Upazila and when the van reached the place of occurrence the killer BRTC passenger bus that was coming from the opposite direction lost its (bus) control and ran over the van.
