Training on tissue culture inaugurates in BARI

The Biotechnology Division of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has arranged a five day-long hands-on training on ‘Plant Tissue Culture Techniques’ from Sunday at its seminar room. Representatives from BARI, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI), Bangladesh Sugar-crop Research Institute (BSRI) & NGOs have participated in the training.BARI Director General Dr. Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the training workshop as chief guest in the morning. BARI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab, Director (Training and Communication) Dr. Md. Miaruddin, Chief Scientific Officer of Biotechnology Division Dr. Md. Abdullah Yusuf Akhond, Principal Scientific Officer Dr. Mahmuda Khatun, Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Hassan, Dr. Kamrun Nahar were, among others, present on the occasion. In his speech, BARI Director General Dr. Abul Kalam Azad said, innovation and development of new varieties of different crops are becoming popular day by day with the use of tissue culture in the country. The five-day training will provide hands-on training to the trainees on various techniques for tissue culture.
College student in road accident

A college student met his tragic end when his 3 wheeler vehicle (Mahendra) collided with a speeding truck at Ghonarhula under Gopalganj district on Friday morning, according to a report received here. The ill-fated student was identified as Biswajit Mandol (26), son of one Ranajit Mandol of village Sreerampur under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district and a student of Masters Class in Bengali of Gpalganj Bangbandhu Govt. College. It is learnt from the police and the locals that in the morning the deceased was going from Gopalganj to Khulna by a Mahendra and when it reached the place occurrence (at 7 am) the it was violently dashed by the speeding killer truck from its behind and fled away living him dead.
Teen aged girl commits suicide in Sharankhola
A teen aged girl (14) named Swarna Aktar committed suicide in her bed room by hanging herself with a beam of the room in the village Uttar Rajapur under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday afternoon. It is learnt from the local UP member Zakir Hossain that she was the daughter of Abdur Rashid Molla, a village physician of the village. After Zumma prayer a quarrel took place between deceased Swarna and her brother Sabuj over a trifling matter and when it reached its climax Swarna went into her bed room, closed the door and committed suicide. Swarna passed the last SSC Examination from Rajapur High School.
Minor girl killed in Katiadi road accident

A minor girl was killed in a road accident in Katiadi upazila on Sunday morning. The accident took place at Baniagram Bus Stand area in Asmita Union of Kishoreganj-Bhairab Road in Katiadi upazila.. The victim was identified as Sarika (11) daughter of Wasim Mia of Asmita Village under Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj district. Katiadi Highway Police sources said, Wasim Mia was a CNG auto rickshaw driver. Wasim Mia was going to his house to Masuya from Kishoreganj with his wife and two children pursuing an auto rickshaw. A bus named Shamol Chaya pushed CNG auto rickshaw from behind at Baniagram bus stand in the Achmita Union area of Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional road at around 12 noon. Three more people were serious injured in the same family. The injured were admitted to different hospitals. Meanwhile, angry people blocked the road for about an hour. Vehicles are closed on this highway. Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Katiadi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge M A Jalil confirmed this matter.
