Drama Festival ends at Barishal

The weeklong Tri-national Drama Festival titled as ‘theatre creates lifestyles with values’ ended at Barishal on Wednesday night with get together of the participants at Shabdaboli Group Theatre Auditorium. The festival organised by Shabdaboli Group Theatre, the leading theatre organisation of the region, in collaboration with Barishal City Corporation, was participated by theatre teams of Bangladesh, India and Nepal from December 26, 2019 evening. Barishal City Corporation Mayor Serniabad Sadik Abdullah inaugurated the festival by beating drums and illuminating lamps and KM Khalid MP, state minister for cultural affairs, was chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. Among others Kamal Bayezid, secretary general of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Shahabuddin Khan, commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, S M Ajiar Rahman, deputy commissioner of Barishal were special guests of the inaugural ceremony of the festival. The inaugural ceremony of the festival was presided over by Syed Dulal, president Shabdaboli Group Theatre and convener of the festival conducted by Faruk Hossain, secretary Shabdaboli. Among others addressed by Kajal Ghosh, president, Barishal Sangskritik Sangathan Samanoy Parishad, Shuvangkar Chakraborty, presidium member of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Animesh Saha Litu, member secretary of the festival committee. In the festival drama ‘Boishakhini’ was staged by Shabdaboli of Barishal, ‘Ujaney Mrittu’ by Palakar of Dhaka, ‘Makkoman’ by Natomon Theatre of Kolkata, India and ‘Deukakshi’ by Aadityadi Theatre of Nepal. As the Balark Theatre team of 24 Pargana, West Bangal India failed to reach in due time to stage ‘Totar Kahini’, so instead of them Natomon Theatre of Kolkata staged ‘Mon Kanyar Brato’ at the festival.
Youngman commits suicide

A young man named Ariful Islam (28) committed suicide after taking pesticide in ther village Paschim Rajapur under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district at Saturday (December 30) night, according to a delayed report received here. Police of Sharankhola PS said, the deceased was the son of one late Salam Talukdar of village PC Baraikhali under Morrelganj Upazila in the same district. He had been living in the house of his father-in-law since his marriage. Being informed of the matter police recovered the dead body and sent the same to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy. In this connection a UD case was registered with Sharankhola PS. Police added, it will be ascertained whether it is case of suicide or homicide after the postmortem report.
