Merkel urges climate action in New Year message

Chancellor Angela Merkel is telling Germans in her New Year message that “everything humanly possible” must be done to tackle climate change.
Merkel said that there is good reason to be confident about the 2020s in her annual televised message, the text of which was released ahead of its broadcast Tuesday. But she pointed to challenges such as the effect of digitization on people’s jobs and, above all, climate change.

A series of mysterious drones have been spotted flying over several counties in northeastern Colorado.
Sheriff Tom Nestor of Lincoln County told ABC News there have been two confirmed reports of drone sightings in his county over open areas such as ranches. Residents first noticed the drones on Dec. 17.
I.Coast ex-political leader Ble Goude says sentenced to 20 years

Former Ivory Coast political leader Charles Ble Goude said Monday he had been sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison by an Ivorian court over murder, rape and torture charges.
Ble Goude was cleared of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court in the Hague this year, along with his former boss, Ivory Coast ex-president Laurent Gbagbo.
Collapsed tunnel kills 4 in north China

Four people have been confirmed dead and two others are still trapped as of Tuesday morning after a tunnel under construction collapsed in north China’s Shanxi Province, local authorities said Tuesday.
The accident occurred at around 4 p.m. Monday at a tunnel on a highway in the city of Jincheng, trapping six people who were working on the site, according to the city’s publicity authorities.
